I need to replace my windshield. Is there any difference in the glass tint or anything else or are they all pretty much the same?

I called one place and they said one windshield type has a tint strip across the top and one doesn't but there are no other differences between manufacturers.
    Is that correct?
Am I overthinking it? Should I just get a windshield and be done with it?

No, I think the tint is different depending on the colour of your interior. That’s true for the glass on a 3rd gen and while I can’t swear it’s true for the 1st gen, I’d expect the same.

The windshield on my 2002 is super pitted, but I’m holding out as long as I can, cause I catch rocks regularly when I follow anyone in the desert.

A few months ago there was a thread on windshield glass in which a member posted an excellent explanation of the two different types of glass and their technical differences. And which one of the two you should strive for. Sadly I can't find that darn thread. Perhaps one of these fine members can.

Whoever does your glass replacement, request that they use the Toyota rubber weatherstrip. My experience was the generic used by some windshield installers was not large enough to seal well, and you would hear a lot more wind noise. The Toyota seal fixed it, but they have to install it when doing the glass.
