I bought a 2018 TSS (5.7 4x4) with 10k miles. Lifetime mpg said 11. It doesn't seem to matter what I do or how I drive I can't ever get more than 12mpg on a tank. Maybe 13 if it's all on a road trip. The truck has 40k mi now and no improvement. Should I be concerned there is something wrong? I see a lot of you guys talking about 15mpg highway with the 4x4 and I have never seen anything close to that.

Is is stock, lifted, have any other weight adding additions like bumpers, cap?

Unhook the battery and let it set 30 min, will reset everything and may provide more accurate reading based on your driving.

also the MPG calculation is ususally off, do a hand calculation when you fill up

Check air filter for a simple check

MAFS, throttle body, fuel injector, good oil are worth another look as well.

Next full tank write down mileage, for the next full tank, subtract those numbers and divide by gallons to get actual mpg.. mine is usually off by 2 or 3 mpgs...

Change the engine oil and diff, those break in oil only could do 13’s

I can drive aggressively, but even when I'm as careful as I can be on a road trip it's still 12.

I was so hoping this was it. Unfortunately the truck reporting was dead on.

Just saw the mod in your signature, LT headers, suspension, what size tires? If you are running 35s, 12mpg is about as good as it gets

If your truck is lifted with 34-35 inch tires, 12 mpg is not bad i would say

It does have about 2 inches of lift and 35s. But I bought the truck stock and it's been pretty much 12 the whole time. I could see 13 for a little while on the highway if the wind was behind me when it was stock so I'm sure I'm losing 1mpg from the mods, but I'm wondering if I'm still losing another 1 to 2 somewhere.

Ok. Well maybe I did the upgrades at the same time the engine was getting well seasoned. Lots of good help here thanks!

well I lost 1.5-2mpg moving from stock SL tires to 33inch LT tires, so 12MPG with 35s is normal in my opinion.

Third on hand calculation. But that only works if the speedometer is accurate. Should verify that with a gps, phone app, or highway mile markers

My stock '10 4x4 5.7 is driven mostly highway @80mph, it gets about 14-15mpg. Sea level no hills. My '07 4x4 5.7 is driven more in the city and has a huge brush guard on the front, it gets about 11mpg.

If it's stock you should be getting about 14mpg mixed driving. But bigger tires, bumpers, and lifts that all goes out the window. Tundras are just pigs on gas. That's the tradeoff to reliable 380hp on 87 octane....

When you went to larger tires, did you calibrate the speedometer? If not, that will throw off your odometer and everything else distance-related.

Hi folks. Brand new here. Long time Taco owner and just upgraded to a Tundra. I keep checking the mileage monitor on the dash and it is always between 15 and 16 Im 65 so no jackrabbit starts here. I guess I need to calculate manually to get more exact. Anywho, hope you have a great day!

I’ll get around 17 cruising 65-70. All stock with 285/55/20s. Combined average is between 13-14.

dont forget to adjust for the larger 35 inch tires in your hand calculation. Stock size is 32 so 35s are about 7-8% larger. So take the miles you ran on the tank of gas and add 8% for your calculation to get an accurate MPG. With the big tires, you are going farther than the odometer/MPG computer thinks.

Cause 35’s are about 9% less rev vs stock

Soon enough, you will forget all about it. We don't buy these trucks to worry about mpgs.

That's roughly the change in radius from stock to 35s. Mine's more like 1.06

You are right. I had just managed to forget and some guy had the nerve to tell me he was getting 15mpg today in his older 4x4 and it sent me googling.

This is a whole different topic, but the dealership tells me they refuse to calibrate it. And now I'm learning you can't get a tuner on a 2018? Or at least bully dog doesn't have a hack yet? GPS says my actual mpg is off by about 1.06 so I use that in calc.

I've got a Hypertech inline calibrator that hooks in behind the dash cluster. Works great on my 2018, but I don't know if they officially support it on their website yet.

Mine is actually very close. I've had a Subaru for quite a while and that tends to overestimate the fuel efficiency by 2-3 MPG. But Toyota? In my experience, it's always very close. Here's my data from my 2018 Tundra, compare the Comp MPG and MPG columns.
