Been reading the forums, and trying decide if should go with the trd front and rear sway bars for a new 2021 tundra. Ultimate use is some overlanding as I build up the truck. I find conflicting options and like some thoughts.

since it is a non trd modle and saving for the suspension i want, can i put bilstein shocks on it with the stock springs? As a stop gap?

If your truck is new, I would rock the stock shocks, add at least the rear bar as it makes a big difference and cost is about $250. Then save for your suspension you want.

Fuel delete mod Cup holder upgrade
The RSB improved handing, turning and cornering by 75% and the FSB improved it by 25%

The RSB made a big difference for on road handing. It was a significant and noticeable improvement on turns. Your truck probably has a stock FSB, the upgrade will be noticeable but not a significant as adding the RSB.

I don't go overlanding so I can't comment on how significant the sway bars impact off road behavior, at best I travel some unmaintained dirt roads and don't travel too far of them.

The rear sway bar adds on-road handling and cornering at the expense of desired suspension travel when offroad. People who like seem to love it. I don't mind the way my truck handles on pavement with LT tires and no rear sway bar. And I much prefer the off-road performance without it. Depends on how much you venture off pavement, I suppose.

This isn't quite fully stuffed, and I don't think it's close to possible with a rear sway bar:

Rough Country shocks, ReTrax cover, Summo springs, black out badging, bed extender, "some other things I can't mention"
What I did was level the truck with Rancho fronts (3 inches) and for the rear I added a pair of Sumosprings (blue).
The Sumos just touch the frame and go in place of your factory snubbers. They act like a sway bar without being a swaybar and add some capacity to load.
They were $220.00 and the Ranchos about the same.
Truck looks and rides great plus, when going over some rocky areas to go shooting, I don't worry about swaybar damage.

Love this idea. I've talked to @2mchfun about this mod quite a bit and I've seen even more folks talking about it lately! A few questions if y'all don't mind me hijacking -
    • Front - you just added the Rancho springs with a 3" lift, right? Did you remove front sway bar? Did you do anything with OEM bumpstops?
    • Sumos - How did you land on the blue? Others have suggested using yellow. I guess higher load (yellow) is probably going to feel a little stiffer and more grounded in cornering, while blue will give a little more?
    • Sumos - How tight is the fit to the frame? I'm having a hard time figuring out how I would take them off and on if they contact the frame. Meaning, just the spring and not the mounting bracket - leading me to my next question...
    • Do you keep an extra set of sumos that are cut shorter for offroad use? I'd like to have the option for full articulation by keeping a shorter set of sumos handy.

Full size sumo with factory leaf will almost touch the frame with no load. To remove for swapping simply set up hi lift jack under the hitch and lift the truck just about 2", wheels remain on the ground for stability, then you can make the swap.

There will be a trade off. Just have to prioritize. Consider a quick disconnect sway bar?
