It's not airing down. Even if they don't get stuck, you can see the tires struggling. Plus the asshats cut up the beach worse for everyone else.

Camp Tundra set up again. Great to be back and see the horses munching away on our first 20 mins of beach time last night. Little guy hanging with his herd probably a yearling. Stock 1794 and SR5 with 3.5” lift did just fine in both packed and sugar sand.

Quite possible, but there's a lot of fires that are attributed to over inflated tires. Think guys with higher load ranges that inflate them to the sidewall pressure. The vehicle overheats, fluids spill and bam, combustion.

In the last 40 years I have seen many fools that have been stuck because of driver error, or some being a idiot and driving on the soft sand beaches of the OBX in a front wheel drive, mini van, 2wd truck. Honestly, most of the time I would just slash tires down to 12-15 psi and drive in 2wd.

Crazy enough, one of my childhood best friend brother use to have a "beach" station wagon with white wagon wheels that they kept at the Corolla house. Not many station wagons driving on the beach. lol.

I was fortunate enough years ago to be able to drive on the beach from Virginia Beach to Corolla for weekend stays. However those permits are long gone, maybe less than 10 still around if that. Now a days we just hop on the boat and cruise by water and avoid the long drive around.

The OBX and NC (coastal highway 17) offer some of the best kept secret spot for coastal laidback beaches on the east coast.

    Thanks for sharing.

Reviving an old thread. My family and I leave Thursday for 9 days in obx. First 2 days in kitty hawk at the hilton then sat to sat in corova. Can't wait to get down there. We love renting in the 4x4 section. I'll be on the lookout for fellow tundras. Pics to follow20220606_183432.jpg

Have not heard of much action. There’s been a hard Eastern blow causing higher than normal tides. Not sure about the offshore canyon activity.

Should be fun. I have not checked but I’m sure with the price of fuel these days, the offshore trips must be fairly pricey.

Lots of memories here for me. Spent summers from S-Turns all the way to the point/hatteras Village and Ocracoke. old '85 Isuzu trooper with a 4-banger diesel was a sand buggy extraordinaire. If you dont have max Trax or whatever those plastic things are, your beach towels are great to get you "unstuck".

Now, 1 week+ a summer (a little further away from these locations - not telling) scratches the itch and reminds me of the emptiness that Hatteras Island used to have 20-30 years ago. Also, growing up nearby in VB made these trips pretty easy. VB a nightmare (to me) now.

Although 2 days at the hilton is not bad. Good food, drinks and high cotton bbq across the street.

    Edit. And duck donuts
