I have the perfect motor to slide right in there to get about 25-26 mpg :D

Ok, you’ve sparked my interest. Supercharged 3.4L?…although I’m skeptical this would get 25-26 mpgs so maybe the 4-banger? Funny the 3.0 V6 doesn’t have but 150 HP and not much more than the 4 cylinder motor. Toyota sure wasn’t aggressive about adding HP in those days.

The 3.0L V6 was one of the worst motors Toyota has ever made. :anonymous:

Well maybe so, but I am pushing 286,000 miles on mine so I can’t complain too much. I think the 3.4L is so much better though!

Did you have all the recalls Toyota put out done?

They are ok motors if the issues are fixed. It’s a lot of motor for a little space and the engineers at toyota did not design them to be backyard mechanic friendly.
ei… PITA to work on (if you do the work yourself)

Yeah, I’ve had the head gaskets and all the other recalls done. I’ve done most of the work myself over the years and the starter replacement had to be one of the biggest PITAs! Valve cover leaks aren’t much fun to fix either..
