Are stock size BFG KO2’s a problem on 20 and 21 models?

I was wanting to buy a tougher tire for short term off road work at my deer hunting lease. The country there is rough with larger rocks, prickly pear cactus spines and mesquite thorns. A buddy of mine has the KO2 tires and loves them, because of the more durable sidewall. He has not had a flat since using them and it seems like many ranch owners out in this part of Texas has them on their trucks.

Here is the weird thing…. I went to the BFG website and punched my vehicle into their search engine (2021 Toyota Tundra Limited with 20”Aluminum wheels lt275-55-R20, and this tire does not pop up as a recommendation. If I do the same for a 2020 model the same result happens. Then I try earlier year models, 2017-2019, and the KO2’s come up as a selection BUT with a warning saying that says the vehicle door placard does not match the tire (as far as tire psi is concerned). They advise running them 43 up front and 46 in back and not doing so would be “unsafe”. I know the KO2s run at a higher max psi but should I be concerned with running these tires on my 2021 tundra? It weird why they don’t list it for use on 2020 or 2021 models, but DO list it for earlier year models. I sent an email to BFG to inquire about this. Has anyone experienced a problem with these tires on 20 or 21 models??

I heard from some members on here that they sometimes are hard to balance.

I like them personally. Never had a flat, last a while and wear fairly evenly as long as they are rotated regularly and your alignment is good. Some have reported them being hard to balance but I’ve never had this issue. That size should work fine on your truck. I’m wearing 285/55R20 at 44-45PSI.

I had 285/55/20 KOs stock on my 2014.
    Now running 275/60/20 KO2s, but I have a 2.5" lift.
    I don't think you'll have any problem with a 285/55/20..

Good tires, getting a little noisy.
I'd have to agree that I've never had a flat with the KOs or KO2s..

I'm running 275/70R18 on stock wheels.

No issues... I decided to go with these after a successful run (2 pair) on our 2016 4Runner.

    Currently 43-46 PSI.

SK, the reason for the situation you're describing is because of corporate lawyers' legal counsel and the potential liability issues involved. That's just the world we live in. Those BFG tires will be fine on the truck.

21 Pro with stock BBS rims, shop advised against the BFGs because they struggle to balance and maintain a balance. I had KOs on my Jeep for years and loved them, on Nitro Ridge Grapplers now. 1000 miles with 200 off road, so far so good.

Finally heard back from BFG. Not a good experience at all with their customer service department. I eventually got to speak to a “supervisor “ who told me that the KO2s are not recommended for the 2021 tundra because they are a LT tires and the tundra has P-Metric tires. Then they said the load and speed ratings were different and it would be dangerous to switch over. I found this as pure bullshit. I ended up buying a set of KO2’s at Costco. I got word that Costco would mount them on my truck, despite the differences. Thanks all for the input but it’s clearly due to fear of lawsuits and such.

yes costco your best bet for K02s. I just got 35's mounted by them.
KO2's took a lot of weights to get balanced but with Costco free rotation/balance/warranty it's a no brainer in case of issues.
I always had good luck with BFG on my other vehicle.

@CoachJ any pics with the 275/70r18's? I'm looking at getting a set for my stock 18's.

50,000 miles on mine. used for daily driving to light offroad use in temps ranging between -40 to 105. needless to say i'll be throwing on a new set this fall. very good tire with zero issues experienced.

    Too many, but not enough....
I have 275/65 KO2 on my stock steelies on my '21. Absolutely no issues. I know people say sometimes they are hard to balance, but i have had KO's and KO2's on multiple vehicles for multiple years and have never had a balance issue. Just make sure you have the white letters out :)

BFG tires are junk. They are not what they were years ago.

I haven't had any bad experiences with them... granted I've only been using BFG KO2's since 2016. Used them all over Southern California trails, Moab, and even on cross country from L.A. into Georgia/Florida and up to NY and Washington D.C.

interesting... 2 sets later, 90,000 miles between original ko's and ko2's and i haven't found anything to complain about between compound or construction. that being said aside from aesthetics i don't notice a massive difference between generations either.

No lift, stock height, although I’m going to level it soon. This is the size that comes with TSS package.
