    Hi All,
I happen to have a new head unit (Pioneer AVIC-W8600NEX) that I would like to install in my 2021 TRD Pro with the plan of purchasin/ginstalling a package from @james@tech12volts (amp/speakers). I've done hours of reading and I can't find anyone that has done a head unit upgrade on a 2021 JBL system. My suspicion is that you'll lose all of your app functionality like remote service (lock/unlock, start, driver settings, etc.)

Anyone have any info/thoughts on this?

Sorry I can't answer that, hopefully someone will have your answer.

I am assuming you are talking about Maestro. From what I was told, expect to lose some functionality specifically some of the vehicle settings. It is one of the reasons I kept the JBL headunit and went with a DSR.

As far as losing remote services, are you talking about connected services? If so this is an interesting question. I don't think the headunit is a necessary component for remote start and the other features connected services offers. You may loose some of the other options if they are accessed via the JBL menu.

Thanks @Saltyhero13. I'm good with losing some functionality but not the remote start feature under the app.

I guess the only way to find out is to disconnect the radio and see what still works. I'll post my findings once I have them.

That is what I was going to suggest. Eliminate the radio from the system and see if it works before swapping radios.

Successful upgrade of my head unit. Still retained all of the features to include the app features, remote start. Working on the amp upgrade now.

Amp upgrade was successful as well. I did a 4 channel amp for the door speakers and a mono amp for the JL Audio Stealthbox. Tuning time...

I want this so bad. It seems like there are tradeoffs going any direction except full replacement. If I'm reading this correctly you were able to maintain the remote app functionality? That's pretty awesome.

@parks4ya I'm expecting my 21 TRD Pro to come in end of August and my first planned mod after some tint (I live in AZ) is to upgrade the sound. Can you do a recap of what you upgraded, challenges, lessons learned, and what you might do different?

    Thanks in advance.
