After my grandfather passed away, my grandmother gave me one of his tie tacks. I was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on how exactly I would wear it. I can't seem to wrap my head around what the little chain and bar are for or where they should sit. Inside my shirt? Between my shirt and my tie? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you, gentlemen. :hattip:

Ok, one more question. Would a tie tack be too formal if not wearing a jacket?

You wear that tie tack whenever the fuck you want to, and don't give a shit about what anyone else thinks.

Also, that's a very nice, and very Canadian tie tack.

    :fistbump:

I would like to wear it to my grandfather's memorial service but, since that will be in August, it may end up being too hot for a jacket.

It'll be the perfect time to wear it and wear it proudly.

Super cool keepsake from your Grandfather.

I think if you like the look go for it. People wear all sorts of vintage stuff nowadays, no one should bat an eye and if they do it’s their problem not yours. Personally I wouldn’t actually wear a tie without a jacket so the tack wouldn’t come into play but I’m pretty traditional for work.

If I'm going for a slightly more casual look, I prefer a tie without a jacket to a jacket without a tie (which looks strange to me).

Yes it definitely can look strange, particularly if it is a suit jacket with the matching pants. You’d almost think they dunked their tie in the toilet puking or doing rails earlier- but if you go a sport jacket and pattern shirt with chinos or dark jeans, that can be on the casual end of biz-casual/dinner out kind of thing.
