    I'm glad I found this thread as I'm about to look into exterior lighting options. I will have to look but I'm considering making my own holes and installing rubber grommets with wire pass through slits. Just gotta find the right spot to do it.

    The bumper shim stuff is funny. I ended up using these...

    Don't let the picture fool you. They are 1/2" thick. 3/8" ID and 3/4" OD. A little more pricey than a nut or washers but I got the warm and fuzzy from knowing they were solid.

    Just use the giant existing pass through on either side of the engine bay. The difficulty here is vastly over-stated.

    After looking at it today, I'd say a 1/4", mayyyybe 3/8" spacer would fit and still allow a few turns on the nuts
