Looking into upgrading all shocks/springs from my aged OGs

Originally thinking about going w/ 5100s/OE springs lifted to the highest setting to level front then getting 4600s for rear

Recently looking into adding the lift through some Eibach springs instead of maxing out the 5100s as they’re half the price as OE & have solid reputation
Also looking into OME shocks/spring complete kits as I know they have a also have good reputation just not sure how they ride on tundras
Also like the price point on the Eibach shocks just have the same question as I do w/ the old man emus especially in comparison to 5100s

Also not sure if it’s worth it to just go w/ 5100 instead of 4600 in the rear

5100's are designed to handle heavier unsprung weight. If you are running stock or stock-type/weight wheels and street/passenger tires I would not recommend them, especially above the 3rd setting. They are a great product when used on the correct applications but disappointing if misapplied. I know this doesn't answer your question but it helps narrow it down and hopefully gives some understanding.

Decide your total budget first. Are you doing ucas?

Just decide what your end goal is. If you just want a little with a nicer shock, lift it an inch and no need for uca’s. Now if your upper balljoints are needing replacement anyways then consider them for sure

Main goal is too beef up the tire size and upgrade to A/T or M/T.
I wanted to go as big as I could while keeping the truck level w/o doing dif drops or anything like that.
I was initially thinking about running 285/75/r16 but @Darkness got me considering some 265/75/r16s instead of running spacers w/ the 285s. Just don’t know how much clearance I would need in the front so I was still planning on leveling it.

I've had the OME and Eibach. I prefer the OME it's firmer and more planted but by no means harsh. The eibach is more cadillacy and a bit too wallowy for my taste.

The rear 4600 don't work with any kind of lift, 5100 are good up to 1 inch so just depends if you are lifting the rear.

Just did this one with Eibach all around — kept the stock springs being they only have 70000 miles on them — tire size 265 75 16 falken at3w 10 ply — rides just perfect

Front shocks installed with spring perch at 2nd notch from bottom

2” Lift, Bilstein 5100’s and 885’s, Rear 5100’s Icon 3 Leaf Pack and Firestone Air Bags with Daystar Cradles. Spider Trax 1.25” Wheel Spacers, Factory Wheels wrapped with Toyo 285/70r17 AT2’s.
5100’s front and rear. Cheap and good quality and ride decent.

No need for control arms. Upper ball joints are only $54 from Toyota.

if you want to get fancy add some 885’s and Icon 3 leaf pack in the rear.

Interesting. Keeping the 5100 shocks, what height increase does the OME 885's have on the first stock height rung? Anyone know of the ride and natural height increase from OME's slightly longer 887 same 590lb spring rate, or the longer 886's heaver 660lb spring rate?

After settle the 885’s are about 2” lift. I wouldn’t mind and extra 1/2” I may move up one notch on the 5100’s.

They ride pretty well. I would of just run the factory springs, but I didn’t have the factory ones unfortunately.

Just remember the 885’s are Tacoma springs and will require, all though not 100% necessary, new conversion coil seats for the upper spring seat as they are slightly different diameter than the tundras. I used a Monroe Tundra seat not knowing this. It doesn’t fit all that well, but it’s been fine for over 50k miles.

For what it is worth, I am running 5100s front and rear, have 885 springs, and did a 3/8 spacer. Without running out to my truck to double check, I believe I am just over 2.5" of lift. I have a double cab and the ride felt a bit firm at first, but feels more like a truck should at this point (my previous suspension was waaayyyy bad, like late 80s Caddy bad.)

I pieced mine altogether. I didn't realize I did not have OEM springs when I tried to mount my shocks, but if I did it all again, I would probably just go with a kit like from 1st gen off road .

Thnx, I just ordered set of Taco coil seats from Rock Auto. They should fit on the new Tundra top hats after removing the rubber seats underneath.

I was doing to go with the 885's also, but went with 887's for the 1500 shocks after seeing 1st gen off road's spring chart. They say "Access Cab With Steel Bumper/Winch - 2.5."
The chart helped me decide. I didnt know about the 887's, thnx.

So if I wanted to keep my stock UCAs,

What’s the highest spring I could go on low setting of 5100s if I’m looking to run KO2s @ 265/75/16?

    would OME 884s work?

2884 should be about 1.5 lift which should be fine with stock UCA and that tire size.
