It's not that you're crazy, it's that the market's crazy.

As for me, I'm grabbing one cheap that I'll prob sink $20k into.
I looked at newer trucks, they don't do it for me.

Holy those prices are way different than up here in Montana. I saw a loaded 2004 dc with 74k miles for 10k. Very little frame rust too.

You should buy it, drive it Denver, sell it over a weekend, see some sights, get a decent room, and make 7k.

If I could I would, I'm happy to share the link though if anybody wants to make the drive out to the middle of nowhere.

I would definitely make the switch. I went from a loaded 2015 Ram 2500 Cummins to a 06 DC TRD. My needs changed so I did not need a diesel anymore. I previously owned a 2nd Gen tundra and almost went back. I saw nothing but good things about the 1st gen and went and test drove a few people were selling close to me. I searched for awhile and find the one I was looking for in North Carolina. I got on a plane and bought it. Drove it back to Texas and loved every minute of it. All the service was documented, timing belt was already changed, new tires, no rust and damn near immaculate had 70k miles and I felt like I stole it at 15,500. I did finance it for a short period and the bank financed the full amount. That being said it blue booked for atleast that amount. That was right at 2 years ago. My advice is if it isn’t local ask for tons of pictures especially the frame. Ask to see service records and always check the car fax. I was also big on not wanting anything aftermarket done to the truck. I have trust issues lol. Best of luck on your search.

How much you trying to get out of your 3rd gen? I have been looking for quite awhile and might be interested if the price is right.

    None yet.
Totally on board with this approach. My prior 2004 DC SR5 I purchased in 2007 with 70k miles on it for $12,500. Until 2021 when it got totaled I changed the oil and did the timing belt and put about 62k miles on it and it still worked/looked great. Used a couple of older cars with better MPG for daily commutes and used the truck for truck things. Only carry liability and uninsured motorist and that keeps the insurance cost down below $300 a year. Pretty cheap approach and allows your vehicles to last a lot longer.

I saw the same one for sale in P-cola. I have both 1st and 3rd gen trucks. We purchased the 19 new and then came across the 05 and purchased that too. My biggest complaint about the first gen is the lack of aftermarket compared to 3rd. Almost everything you want is 07 and up. Most of the rubber/plastic parts are also old and need to be replaced, so be prepared for that. I honestly wouldn't get rid of my 19 to keep the 05. I've had to do a ton of work on the 05 and I might break even selling it at today's market. To be fair a lot of the price difference was upgrades too.

I got super lucky buying my 2006 with 83,000 miles for $9K. I bought it from my dad, hence the low price.
