I'm a new owner of a 2016 SR5 4WD DC and removed my back seat a few months ago. I'm single with no kids, so I will never need the back seat. I've been meaning to share with you what I did. The back and bottom are 1/2" plywood which are bolted to the frame using the existing nuts that the seats were bolted down with. The rest of the build is either 1/2" plywood or 3/4" pine. The entire build has been finished with indoor/outdoor carpet from Home Depot to give it a finished look.

I go to Baja for 2 to 3 months at a time, so I bring a lot of gear. By having all this stuff secured in the back seat area, it's not in the camper area getting in my way. With this build, I'm able to store the following back there: 26-gallon water tank, air compressor, tools, jacks, MaxTrax, shovel, broom, tow straps, jumper cables and suitcase with all my clothes.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about my build. I'm not a carpenter, but I'm retired and have pretty good attention to detail. And have seen what 50 miles of jagged washboard can do to things! I can take better pictures if anyone wants.

Also, I recently posted a review and pictures of my new Tradesman camper shell: https://www.tundras.com/threads/tradesman-camper-shell.91988/

Good use of the space back there.
I'm considering removing the rear seats in my crewmax and doing something similar to this.
For now I just built a flat plywood deck covered in the same carpet for the dogs to have a level area to hang out in.
