    Hi all,

I am new to this forum and have already found useful info to keep the mice out of my truck cab and will be taking the necessary steps to keep them out for good. Does anyone have any suggestions to mouse proof your fuse box. I have a 2013 Toyota Tundra and it's currently in the shop because the mice have once again left my Tundra unusable because of chewed wires in the fuse box. No matter what I do to try to keep them out besides sealing/modifying the fuse box I cant keep them out. This seems to be a Toyota problem because they do not get into my wife's vehicle which is parked next to mine and sits for periods of time because she works from home. I expect it's because of the soy flavored wires that Toyota uses. Please help I'm tired of pissing money away on the rodent damage.

I’ve heard people have good luck with peppermint oil. Also one of those devices that hooks up to the battery and emits a frequency.

Thanks for the advice! I had a sonic deterrent mounted right to the top of the fuse box and the mice laughed at it! I uninstalled it. I have tried mint, cayenne pepper, wd 40. Mice are super persistent!

Wow that sucks. I think at this point I would commit holy war on those mice. It would be my mission to kill as many mice as possible on a daily basis. Anything from cats to traps and poison along with the other things mentioned above.

Our Yorkie kills a bunch of mice in our backyard.too. also if there's any voids in your fuse box , stuff it with steel wool , mice can't chew through it

I was having good luck with an ultrasonic unit til they got used to it.... found urine and turds on top of the engine cover again. I've currently regressed to leaving the hood open every single night for the last 3 weeks with no signs since... luckily I live in an area where thats possible I guess, but it still sucks.

Could you find where they are getting in the fuse box and attach metal mesh? at the openings?

In the Navy I had rodent problems in base housing.. I would buy the rat traps at the 99 cents store and would lay them across the hallway alas spike strips, 2 rows of them just in case... would trap 2 a night and would drop them off at the vet. Don't know what they did with them...

I have a bar of Irish Spring soap in the hood, it keeps the mice and cats away.

Just the smell of a cat is usually enough to keep rodents away from wherever the cat is.

I leave my hood up and have snap traps attached here and there. Permanently removed theengine cover. Copious amounts of peppermint oil sprayed inside fenderwells, engine compartment, etc (every night when camping). Luckily I placed chicken wire over the vent openings under the cowl. One night outside Abq, NM I caught 2 mice even with hood up and oil everwhere. Then about 5 hours later while doing 80mph another mouse climbed out from under the cowl. Pulled over and after a hour of antics he finally ran off into the bushes. Crazy day.

Luckily I told my wife that there may still be more in the truck, dont scream if one runs over your feet while we are on the freeway. And then a few hours later she starts stuttering, and pointing at the window. Lol

Bastages! Snap traps (as mentioned above) can help around the front tires, as that's probably how they're getting up to the engine bay. Peanut butter works well as an attractant. Peppermint oil does seem to work as a deterrent. I use a bunch of drops in water in a small spray bottle (helps that my wife deals in essential oils) and spritz around the engine bay.
