This rings a bell with me.

Not a 5.7 Tundy, but one hot summer my 97 Taco engine seemed like it was laboring too hard, lacking power.

I switched to Mobile 1, 0-40 and wow, the engine sounded way smoother, quieter and ran better. I never went back.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected.

I’ll use the same in the Tundy.

All of the “What oil should I use?” threads can easily be answered by: Yes, change the oil, do it frequently. Put on a new oil filter at the same time.

Props to anyone asking because unlike a lot of vehicle owners people asking about maintenance are already way ahead. They know the vehicle will need it. Beyond that my suggestion is to buy whatever oil gives you a warm and fuzzy that meets manufacturer quality requirements that you can afford. Then change that oil frequently. I don’t care if my oil is good for 15,000 miles, I’m changing it at around 5,000 miles. Am I wasting money? Maybe, but $55-$60 in oil every 6 months isn’t going to put me in the poor house, and I know I’m not running lubricants past the effectiveness of their additive package and viscosity.

In the words of Sturgill Simpson in his song to his son; Keep it Between the Lines: “Motor oil is motor oil just keep the engine clean.”

I sense a trend and that trend is "higher numbers equals moar pieces of brain matter".

I'm assigning every potential oil thread starter on this forum a 1000 word essay. The topic: Hydrodynamic Wedge Theory as a Function of Flow/Volume.

The plan is real simple. About 2.75 years into ownership trade for new truck. That way you don't ever even have to change oil, transmission fluid, grease zerk fittings, monitor trans temps..................
