Looks like normal used oil to me honestly but I could be wrong. I never put my oil in a clear jug to inspect.

Side note, those jack stands look really impressive.

Doesn't look that bad.., like most people's old oil, but hard to tell from pics how bad it might be

Here I am thinking this is horrible but from the sound of things, it ain't that bad.
For the record it's pitch black like tar and smells horrible. I was shocked, but maybe because I'm such a newb

Color is really not a good indicator of the condition of your oil.

I think in person it is easier to appreciate how bad some oil is.

I helped a friend change the oil on his Tacoma once. When I pulled the plug the stuff was coming out with the consistency of Hershey chocolate syrup. I put my finger in the flow to marvel at it, it looked less like it was pouring and more like it was stretching its way into the oil tub. He had owned the truck for 6 years at that point, he hadn't done a bit of maintenance in 4 years. We did the plugs too that day, they were originals but looked fine. Air filter looked like the lint trap in my clothes dryer. This was a single cab work truck beater.

In a jar that oil would look like yours.

I don't understand people. My mind just can't comprehend someone thinking it's acceptable to never change their oil.

I unintentionally went about 26k miles on an oil change once. I apologized to my truck and did a 500 mile followed by a 1500 mile then went back to 3k mile intervals.

In the case of my buddy, he just didn't think much about it. He's a smart guy and a hell of an electrician, but as long as his truck didn't complain he didn't bother. He might still have that truck, haven't seen him in 2 years.

Not that long ago I changed the transmission fluid on a '98 4runner after I became the 3rd or 4th owner. The fluid looked like that. I would guess it was the original fluid with 230k miles on it.

I’ve got you beat. 33k miles on a Ford escort wagon rental I had for nine months before I bought my Tundra. Service Rep told me it came out muddy and burnt.

If it were me I would do a used oil analysis.

My reason? See if there’s potentially any serious issues which might result in an insane repair bill in the future.

On this sane note, I placed an order for four test kits from Blackstone labs. Two will be for Tundra/Corolla engine oil, and two will be for Tundra/Corolla transmission fluid.

Each test is $30 so my total will likely be $130 after tax.

I’m really bad about writing stuff down so I can remember when something is due. Like oil changes. I’ve always used trip B for my oil change mileage. But occasionally, my wife will reset that trying to adjust the clock. Or I have to swap batteries or work on the engine but disconnecting the battery. Now, since we both don’t put the miles on our cars anymore like we used to, it’s every September. I change them no matter what. Obviously if it comes up sooner I’ll do it. At one point I was using the owners manual service interval pages and filling them out.

Thats where 5000 mile oil changes come in handy. Havent had to write the titans due dates down. Did it at 275k, 280k, and i’ll hit 285k the next time i go to town and do it again.

How did you catch the oil so neatly in those two jars and how are you disposing of the old oil? Asking for a friend :monocle:

@15whtrd I have the same problem, and kn multiple cars. I started writing down the mileage at the time of change on the oil filters and that helps a bit, if I remember to look at them.

I bought a bunch of those window stickers that the shops use so now when I change my oil I put a new sticker on my windshield. Still no possible way I'd forget for 25k miles. That's like 5 years for me. :D

It was a little over a year for me at the time. My work commute was +/-50 miles round trip and my weekend drives were around 250 miles per weekend.

I’m every 5K or 1 year. I just feel bad when I have forgotten and may be gone 6K LOL I’m sure it’s fine. After reading all these oil threads, about the oils capability of lasting a lot longer than I leave it in there,6k is nothing.
