I think I paid too much for my Tundra

Hello Everyone, I’m a new member here and I think I made a mistake. A couple of days ago I bought a very clean, rust free, free of any mechanical issues 2012 Tundra 5.7L CrewMax 4x4 TRD in silver. This is my second Tundra, I sold my first one and regretted it every since. I bought my current one in New Mexico with 240k miles for 16k with all the services records, 2 owners and a clean title. I drove it 1000miles back to California with no issues 75mph with the AC full blast with no issues it runs like a new truck. KBB stays it’s worth around 17k private party but I don’t really take KBB seriously. Regardless of used car prices being astronomically high I feel I jumped the gun and paid way to much. What do you guys think?8E8A6EC6-AA2D-4E30-BD54-C821999449D0.jpgAADEAD0A-B389-41E5-BDE8-AAFF4827735D.jpgB2F59501-A3D4-4B11-ACF2-941547961DA0.jpg6883518D-DC35-4B7B-8350-6CAB04A917E6.jpg7ACD118B-1C3A-4BF2-B9C6-182A78A3318F.jpgBC272D79-65D8-4AD9-B4F9-F6EF47E86770.jpg

Similar view on KBB here - simply put there numbers are based on nothing but opinions.

A vehicle is worth what a reasonable interested buyer will pay - that is the price point at which you can put a for sale sign on it - use reasonable advertising and expect to sell it at in a timely manner (say 30 days typically).

It’s 4wd, it’s clean and it’s a Toyota - expecting to pay less than you did is unreasonable and n my opinion. Always buyers out there for a truck like that and at 16k it’s a fair deal at worst - enjoy and know yours will likely outlast a lot of new Bug 3 products.

Truck looks to be in tip top shape. If they maintained it like they claim (and it looks) and you continue, that truck might get you another 1-200k miles without huge bills. That's worth 16k to me. Now if it shits the bed in 3 months, which no one can predict, you obviously will feel alot worse about the prospect.

I'd go into this one with a smile until the truck gives you a reason not to. No reason to mentally ruin the truck for yourself if its willing to still work for you!

Looks like a good deal to me, with the current market you were lucky to find a nice truck for a reasonable price. Enjoy being a Tundra owner again.
I do believe V8 Tundras will hold their price pretty well in the future because there will always be buyers of V8 trucks regardless of the fancy gizmo V6 and 4 cyl variants on the market.
No lining up to use a $$ fast charger on a road trip either.

Welcome from Colorado. A good deal. No salt used in New Mexico so the frame should be in decent shape. Having the service records is a big plus. Used truck values are high even for older trucks with higher miles like the reliable Tundra. Even the big 3 dealer salesmen around here know they can get top dollar for a Tundra and will sell quick.

That’s a very nice truck and it looks like it was very well kept. What’s done is done and there is nothing you can do about…so I wouldn’t waste time fretting over the decision (life is too short). And in the end that what the market is calling for so I don’t think it was a bad deal per se. I am sure you will have many good years of service out of the truck. And it’s the PERFECT deal if you love the vehicle. Congrats OP!

I have to admit at first I thought "Ho boy...."

Until I saw the pictures. Back in 2011 I bought a 2000 4Runner for $7200, with 130K miles on it. Wasn't interested at first - UNTIL I saw the thing in real life. It had been maintained meticulously and was literally in showroom condition. The engine was in SUCH good shape that Toyota actually wanted to take it apart to figure out why it looked SO good and ran so well....it was well worth the money.

This truck is similar, to me. It looks to have been maintained fantastically. Miles are a bit high, but for 10 years, that means 24K a year, which means a lot of highway miles, so as long as it's in good repair, I think you did just fine. I've known more than a few people who did the same thing - one guy bought his 'very used 4Runner' with like 270K miles on it. It now has like 423K on it and STILL runs like new.

You did fine. Looks really clean. That will truck will run another 250k. Enjoy it, don't dwell on the price, sounds like a fair deal. Like others truck prices are inflated right now, and you got it for 1k under KBB. That is doing very well IMO.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! I have trouble reconciling the relatively high prices for used vehicles, but I've been that way for years. It looks to me like you got a really good deal, considering the maintenance records and the pics. And you hit it out of the park with the color! Enjoy your truck!

Welcome! If the maintenance is all caught up, that's real world worth like $2,500 there to me. I've been doing a lot on mine since I got it, the 1 owner truck I got, the owner did great maintenance until about 1 1/2 years or so before selling so now in 3 months I have changed plugs, cleaned MAF, changed window rubbers, bled brakes, changed belt & pulley, rear diff and trans fluid, air filter, cabin filter, shocks and springs, etc.., it all adds up and I still have more to go before I call it totally caught up.. If it's truly caught up, you did awesome IMO.

Food for thought but your question has more to Do with your perception than anything. You’re experiencing buyers remorse which is common after a big purchase.

if you walked in expecting to pay 15k for a 15k good or service and paid 13k you would feel it was a good deal. If you walked in expecting to pay 12k for the 15k good or service and paid 12.5k you would feel ripped off even though you paid less than the next guy. Perception is everything!

in this case I would probably look at it from a utility standpoint. If it gives you the utility and longevity you expected from the purchase price then you paid the right price. Only time will tell on that matter.

You did fine. I happily paid $26k for my 2012 crewmax limited TRD 4x4 w/ 110k miles back in January. I looked at a fair number of higher mileage 2010-2013 trucks and you are right in the ballpark, especially for how clean it looks to be... I just saw a 2013 SR5 w/ 75k miles listed in Denver for $35k, so the prices run quite a range based on mileage.

You're in luck, if you think you paid too much you can take advantage of the sky high market prices and resell it for more.

I learned long ago that when you buy something, car/truck/house/etc & then you keep looking you're gonna find a "better" deal or so your mind thinks. Just drive it & don't look back!

Exactly, a month after I bought my truck, I saw a 2015 Pro CM, in cement with 85k miles on it for $33k. Which was basically my dream truck. I convinced myself it had been smoked in or something similar and had to be ruined, because it was $5k under KBB. You can always second guess yourself. Ultimately you got a badass truck, and I'm sure you will love it.
