    Hello everyone,
I wish my first post was on a positive note, but my son bought a 2002 Tundra with extensive frame rust. Obviously we should have done due diligence and not bought the truck, but now we are stuck with it bad frame and all. I have come to understand that there were recalls on this frame and Toyota did replace them, but apparently the time for getting a recall fix has passed.

Looking for thoughts and courses of action, any help would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard, sorry your new purchase came with the dreaded frame rot. Pics would be helpful to see the extent of the rust.

Was the frame under coated at all? If so, you’re with the rest of us where they did their job regardless of how beneficial or not it was and nothing further can be done. If nothing was done other than the inspection, you MIGHT have a chance of getting the replacement but you won’t know until you call and find out. Try the dealer first then Toyota corporate next.

It's a crap deal when you realize what you've got after the fact. I bought mine knowing it's condition and spent last summer cleaning/repairing and reinforcing the frame.

Your only recourse depends on your state's laws when it comes to used car purchases. In Wisconsin it's "Buyer beware-as is where is"

X10 on the pictures. It'll help us help you.

    and welcome to the club!

02 MIGHT be able to get a frame if you take it in to the dealer and someone hasn’t already tried. We did an 01 a year ago at work.

Go to toyota.com/owners put in your VIN and see what has been done on the truck over the years. You should be able to determine if the frame was undercoated by the dealer on a previous date therefore you would not be eligible for a replacement. If it was never sprayed then you could be eligable as long as the truck was registered in one of the qualifying states. At the very least it's worth taking to whatever local dealership you have around and have it checked and if its covered for the recall. Currently awaiting frame replacement on my 01 and it isn't even really that rusty.
