Logistical Problem - powder coating stock rims

Ordered a new Platinum about a month ago. While waiting for the truck to come in, found a reputable powder coat shop. Plan was to bring new ride , drop it off for 48hrs to have my stock wheels powder coated.
Got word truck would be ready today. Reached out to powder coating shop Monday night, made appointment to bring in Wednesday.
Picked up the new ride this morning! I contact the PC shop with a question about the process/timeline and that's when I found out... , they don't do tire changes there. I have to bring just the rims. ‍♂️

I'm not sure how to make this work.
I guess i either need to find loaner rims and or find a place that would remove the tires and keep my truck on lift for 48hrs
I did call two other powder coating shops, one of them also just wants the rims brought to them. The other shop wants to charge 2.5xs what I was going to pay.

Any advice?

To simplify the process I recommend you get the whole truck powdercoated.

 

Any reason you can’t put the truck on jack stands in your garage or driveway for a couple days and have a buddy take your wheels to a tire shop to have the tires unmounted and then to the powder coat shop?

 

Buy a set of stock rims in perfect condition. Have them PC'd. Have a tire shop swap the tires over. Sell your un PD'd rims.

If you live in an area where you need winter tires you could buy a set of winter rims now. Otherwise I would probably jack the truck up and leave it until you get your wheels coated.

 

Super strict HOA. Thank yoy for the suggestion, you just gave me an idea. I do have a friend who has a garage I might be able to do that.

 

Use your spare and get 1 done at a time? I have 2 spares so I’m considering taking 2 in the. Doing the other 2

 

Where are you located?

Myself and another member split the cost of some take off steel wheels and had our own tires mounted onto them while our wheels were powdercoated. I ended up putting new tires on the freshly powdercoated wheels.

 

Maybe buy a set of takeoffs from Craigslist with tires, swap to them and deal with your powder coating and tire stuff, then put the cool ones back on and sell the takeoffs for what you paid.

Thats what I might do, I'd like to change mine to a different color next time I need new tires.

 

I had the same predicament and ended up finding a set of used TRD OR wheels on FB Marketplace that I dropped off at powder coater. He had them for about a month before I got them back so that would have been a long time on jack stands.

Once you get them back, take to tire shop to swap out wheels to your tires and then sell your original wheels. You will only be out on what you paid to powder coat. I am guessing you have the 20” Platinum wheels, I see them for sale all the time on FB Marketplace.

****Update****
I was looking for cheap pair of something to put on so I can take my new ones off, etc etc..
First, I realized I'm not going to get squat for my rims and tires (with 160miles on them). I could not believe how many brand new sets of Platinum rims and tires were in FB and craigslist in my area.

I came across a set of 2019 oem TSS wheels. I lowed balled the seller we settled on $500.00
Lived close by, went and checked them out, they looked decent, so I pulled the trigger.

I'm going to clean them with some vinegar/ water, maybe simple green/water and have to see if I made the right decision.

Do you think $500 is a decent price? What are your thoughts about TSS wheels on Platinum (windchill pearl)?

Having the black TSS wheels myself, I think they are okay and I like them more than the platinum wheels. But I think the OR are the best looking wheels from Toyota after the BBS one. I don't like that the design on the TSS wheels isn't symmetric and that looking from driver side or passenger side changes how they look (yes I understand you will never see both sides at the same time but it bothers me...) many complain about keeping the TSS wheels clean but my truck is more often dirty than it is clean so I just shrug that issue off. If the wheels are in good shape, that is probably a fair price.
What color TSS wheels did you get? I'm sure they would look great with your windchill pearl.

I think you might be related to my wife. Ha. She picks up on stuff like that. Not a bad trait to have, good to see the minuscule details.

The wheels are black. Have a little buyer's remorse at the moment. Just setting up my cleaning station and they look more faded than before. I could probably sell them and make money back. We shall see, time to scrub.

I didn't notice for longer than I'd care to omit but now that I know it bugs me. If I realized before I bought i probably would have gone with the OR package instead of TSS.

I thought you were just going to run the TSS while your stock rims were powder coated? So if they are a little faded, does it really matter
Or are you planning to keep the TSS and run those?

 

For the time being, I'm going with the TSS. For the price, I paid ($500), plus the PC, I would be over $1K. At that point, I would just get brand new ones. Ultimately, I called an audible on myself, When I saw the TSS rims, I thought maybe that would work.

Is it bad putting 2yr old rims on a brand new ride? Doesn't she deserve better. I have this guilty feeling festering.

Dude tss wheels are badass, thats a score. They sell for 1k when they pop up in so cal. The tss wheels are an inch wider which makes them perfect
