Wow you are so off base. The powerboost hauled 10k lbs up to vail at 11k feet only 20 seconds slower and 1mpg worse than a 6.6 duramax 2500. Do some math and you’ll realize the f150 is an absolute beast.

Try doing that in your cost saving no transmission cooler tundra and you’d be on the side of the road.

 

Wow you missed the entire point, I talked about overheating. They did it with the tundra and it made it up... without overheating LOL damn you live under a rock. Fords are over-engineered while using sub par materials.

*edit* I have also towed from Tuscon to the central valley through flagstaff with my tundra and about 6500 pounds and guess what? It didn't over heat when it was 105* outside. Weird.

 

Not with 10k lbs, and not at that speed over the distance required for Vail Pass. Apples and Oranges, and all that video shows is that the powerboost f150 is nearly as strong as a 2500 diesel.

ALL modern trucks can pull at towing speed up that hill in today's world. You act like it is a feat to do that. It definitely isn't.

And I am willing to bet if you drive the Tundra at 65 (as per the manual) you won’t be stuck on the side of any road with a blow transmission in the Tundra…

 

You do realize in that video the Ford never shut down or had to pull over. The alert went away. They were throttle down with 10k lbs in the back for 10miles up to 11k feet elevation.

The Tundra cannot do that.

I also know the trans cooler removal was for cost savings as Toyota came out and said “we did the research and it’s not needed for the majority of owners, so we removed it.” All that tells me, as an attorney, is that they wanted to save money because their cost savings outweighed the potentially small group of buyers that could have issues down the line.

Where did Toyota say that and is it possible that it’s really not needed? And truthfully that statement does not mean that it was ONLY a cost cutting measure lawyer or no lawyer. And yes there are going to be Tundra owners with transmission problems. The ones that tow 9k at 80mph in the mountains as common sense would dictate.

My old boss loves his fords.. with all it's misses, rust issues with exhaust manifold bolts, broken spark plug threads, timing chain issues.

@TundraLaw keeps his vehicles for about two years then trades, 71.37% of all Fords can go that long without an issue. So those things don't matter to him. The tech and modern touches do.

Um… no TFL did not. They have never posted a tundra haul up vail pass (much longer than Ike gauntlet) with 10k lbs.

Further, the f150 did not shut down. It’s smart enough to know to alert the driver of high temps. Your overpriced truck with no trans cooler would just burn up.

 

True that! I can afford it, and makes sense for me. I think I’m good for 3 on this truck.

 

That Ford alerted the driver and pulled power because it was getting hot. That motor was working hard, this just shows what a lot are taking about rather have a bigger displacement V8 then a small twin turbo 6. Of course the new tundra grille is massive so maybe they won't have issue.

 

I wonder whose decision that was…. And I wonder if any testing was done.

ok Joey from Long Island. I’ve been on this forum since 2017 with two tundra’s, and most recently up until last month.

It’s ok to call out your favorite brand instead of drink the koolaid.

Haha! Good one I am not from Long Island but hey thanks for playing. I don’t like Kool Aid either. I am a realist and I knew exactly what I was getting when I bought my truck. I bought my truck for reliability. It’s the least gas efficient, and tech lacking of any other manufacturer…**NEWS FLASH** that’s exactly what I wanted. I don’t expect ANY 1/2 to safety tow 7k or more despite what the brochures say. Clearly you NEED to stop buying Tundras…

 

OK, I've never done the Gauntlet but I have done Grand Mesa. On my bicycle.

 

I'll be interested to hear what the range will be on the F150 and Tundra hybrids pulling a 6k lb trailer. I mean, torque is great but stopping to power up every 150 miles would suck. Will it be a plug in hybrid? Is the Ford?

Edit: looks like the F150 hybrid still has a 36 gal fuel tank so even at 9-10 mpg it should still have pretty good range. And it appears that it is a plug in.

 

The thing that stuck out to me was the 1700 lb payload. I thought F150 PB were more at 2000 lbs, and that was a stripped out base model, give it a higher end model and it would be less than 1500 lbs. New Tundra should easily go beyond this
