I think if you get used to it then its probably no biggie. When I stayed in Norway it was hard to know when I should be sleeping or awake and the time change compounded it. I haven't stayed there during Winter to see the 24/7 darkness.

I did visit Iceland during winter and it was like the sun failed to rise into view. I saw light but only from 10am to 2pm and the sun was not seen. It made sight seeing pretty difficult.

 

I got a experience the transition to the pure darkness. (I was up there for a while when my uncle was messed up) it’s weird for sure


So fucking beautiful though.

 

I think so too, the darkness makes all vehicles look more black.

Jokes aside Alaska is on my list of places to see in the next 5 years.

Who here learned to swim the hard way? Like ‘throw the kid in the water, they’ll figure it out.’

Thats how i learned, but my younger brother got swimming lessons. Im still the better swimmer.

a lady in my neighborhood wont let her 5 year old in the river, and needs someone with a pool to give lessons. I was 3 or 4 and thrown in the frio, according to my parents. Im just curious, i wont be teaching the kid, but i was disappointed that someone thinks kids cant figure it out.

 

I know some adults that don't know how to swim and I feel bad for them. Really pitiful that their parents never taught them something so important.

 

I got thrown in the green river by grandpa. Just before the Rochester dam. I was 5 or 6. Good times. Crazy old fuck

My mom's name is Ina. I find it's super uncommon and always curious when it pops up.

Same...except next 7 years for my timeline.

This is my plan...except I kinda want to do it in the 911. Obviously in the summer. 3751 miles, 62 hour drive time...if I take the most direct route to Anchorage. If I go through the PNW (to knock WA & OR off my list of states to visit), it's 4735 miles and 79 hours...one way. That's a lot of 93 octane.

 

Try learning to swim at the beach and maneuvering between jellyfish trying not to get stung. At least the salt water keeps you afloat. The walk through the sand with broken beer bottles and hypodermic needles from junkies makes it even more exciting.

 

Stripper pits out here from ye olden Mines. No telling how deep they are. I've jumped off the highwall into one of them out on Peabody WMA which is against PHM guide lines.

Yeah we have quarry diving around where I grew up. The unused Granite quarries would fill with ground water and we’d see who could jump from the highest spot. Couldn’t see beyond a depth of a few feet at most. A few people got killed jumping head first into a submersed log.

 

Pasadena had 3 options; public pool, galveston, bayous.
I was taught early none of those were good ideas.

Btw, blow-up kayak did great, but i didnt hit any sticks. All it needed out of the box was a little grease on the nipples. If it would fit a bigger cooler, it would be my daily. So much easier than boomboxing a 10’angler down the steps.

Urban MN isn't great. Not as bad as the news makes it out, but still not great. Better than Chicago or Detriot though.

Mid-state and north is almost all Lake, river, swap or trees. BWCA is awesome, but beware of man-eating mosquitoes. Duluth area is nice to visit, but it's now a hippie town with a massive homeless population.

there are tons of great areas for offroading/ATV riding. Spider lake, Nemadji state forest, Paul Bunyan state Park, Iron range Off road park, and more.

there are also dozens of state parks where you can camp for cheap/free.

As others have said, southern mn may as well be Northern Iowa. flat, boring, and nothing but cornfields.

 

Learned at 2 yrs old, same for my 5 siblings. I was so young I don't really remember, but was able to watch my mom teach my younger siblings. All in a swimming pool and without any type of floatation. She'd start out by blowing in our face, then dunking us under, I'd guess that teaches you how to hold your breath (being literally too young to comprehend instruction). It would then work up to us swimming toward her where the reward would be oxygen, and the better we got, the further back she'd go. I think natural instincts play a part. On the other hand, I've known several grown men that have never learned to swim. One of which, recently went to the river with some friends, didn't mention it, and got thrown in. Once they realized he couldn't swim, they had to dive in and save him. You'd think that might be a reason to learn at 35 yrs old, but instead, he just says "no mas rio para mi"

Speaking of kids. I don't understand why parents sit in their car at the bus stop with their kid instead of just driving them to school. I see this all the time never understood it. The school people are zoned for is typically pretty close.

 

A buddy of mine just acquired an 87 Mustang LX with the 5.0 engine in decent shape he told me just now over the phone. He tells me there’s a huge hole in the passenger floorboard.

I wonder if this means he can get some studded tires and head out onto the lake for ice fishing from inside the car.

Anyone ever do this?

 

Pops learnt me how to swim by buying me some Ice Skates as a kid. I was always into Dorthy Hammil and really cool stuff like Bad Minton. I wasn’t a normal kid like the other guys throwing Coal Rocks at each other and getting stitches and stuff.

Anyhoo, Pops bought me some Ice Skates and put me out on thin ice and thats how I learnt.

 

Are we talking motor mounts here or the tire studs? I’ll have to say I’m a little confused.

Only the strong survive. I’m guessing he didn’t give you hockey skates so you at least had the toe grip to get you out.

I got Porkchop back from the repair guy today. Dropped him off the 5th weekend in January. He did the timing belt, WP, cam seals, and the front main. $400.

That's on a fwd v6. $400.

Same dude did the clutch for me on the same car. That job involves removing the subframe. $250. Plus while he had the SF out I had him put in some AL subframe bushings in. Stiiiiiffff.

And in typical SHO fashion, I was about a mile from home and he just sputters and dies. Dead battery. Date on the battery says 9/18. Bought a new one and threw it in. I guess we'll see if it's the battery or alternator soon...

I don't have a recent pic so you jerks get an old one. Or two.

 

So I was going back through some pics on my phone and forgot my gf took pics of me working on Ironman.

 

I can't possibly be the only one wondering how these go together.

 

Maybe just the 5.0 is in decent shape.
