    Hello folks.
I just bought a 2014 Crewmax TRD. I need to install a brake controller. After reading several threads, I went and looked under the steering column to see if its pre-wired. And I see this connector dangling. That could be it??

I then read some other threads to help me identify what the brake controller connector looks like, and found one thread that said check by the parking brake and look for a large blue wire, makes it easier to identify. Sure enough, I found the controller connector, taped to a small harness. Which leads me to ask, what connector (shown in attached pics) is this for? Connector location is above gas pedal behind knee panel, and is adjacent to another connector that is gray but is taped up to a harness.

    Any help is appreciated.

    TIA.

    JDH

I'm not sure but these trucks have alot of unused connectors depending on trim level and options.

Since you have a 2014, it could be the connector for an aftermarket trailer brake controller.

Hard to tell exactly where you are looking based on the angle of the picture. Is that the harness running to the steering column, or some other main harness?

The one that you see completely taped to the harness is a junction connector, and judging by the fact the one you have uncovered has a "blank" looking plug attached to it, I would bet that is is another junction connector. When surfing through the wiring diagrams, you will run into connectors like this one that are all one connector plug, but there are many wires "spliced" inside of them:
    upload_2021-6-21_8-50-42.jpg upload_2021-6-21_8-53-16.jpg

The way they do that is by using a "blank" plug on the connector that has jumpers for the pins that are connected. In the above image, pins 12, 13, 15, 17, and 19 are all jumpered together and pins 1, 2, 4, 6, and 8 are also jumpered, but separated from the first group. A lot of times, those junction connections are used for the CANBUS system communication, or for combining grounds.

The "unused" connectors will usually be inserted into a blank plate of some sort but not have an actual "blank" connector like in your picture though. The solar sensor will be plugged into the round blank in your dash, the glass break connector will be plugged into a switch blank in the spot where it goes. But others, like the trailer brake controller and the ECU connector for the glass break sensor will simply be taped loosely to the wiring harness.
