Weight Distribution hitch/airbags thread

2015 Tundra double cab 4x4 5.7V8 bought new. Been towing a 2 horse trailer since then over all kinds of terrain, usually with only one horse inside. Empty tongue weight 650 lbs (horse trailers have axles set to the rear of the trailer, under the horses). Loaded tongue weight probably 900 lbs. I am using a chain type Equalizer hitch and use the truck mainly for towing. After 6 years of towing the springs started to flatten out. With the same load as when new, the truck was starting to squat. I added leaf spring helpers. It raised the back end of the truck, unloaded, 1.5 inches and I had to adjust the hitch ball height. I don't feel the WDH is doing as good a job of transferring weight to the front axle. It isn't a matter of leveling the truck because it is level when hitched with the new leafs. But it is the hitch weight capacity I am concerned about - max 500 lbs without WDH, 1100 lbs with one. If it is no longer transferring weight to my front axle, am I overloading the rear axle?

 

Only way to know is to go to scales and weigh, then adjust your wdh properly using the scale
