Can't have wood fires in this area (for good reason) so I brought my propane pit and comfy blue chair. If I drink enough maybe I'll pass out in it.

 

Propane fire pit link? We’re headed out soon and probably in the same sitch. I’ve made my own from a commercial wok, but it’s not as portable as I’d like

 

I got this one from Lowe's and have used it maybe a dozen times. I think it puts out 55,000 BTUs? Super light and convenient. I tried to get my sister one around Christmas time, but they were sold out, so I got her this one

These are considered "stoves" on USFS land since they have a shut off. Nice on cold mornings. Can do a bit of cooking if you're clean, I make Jiffy Pop on mine.

Clearly we both live where it’s not needed, more for ambiance, but I will definitely roast some mallows on one! Haha that’s mainly the reason I need one!

 

We picked up one of those gas firepits a month or so ago. We're allowed a real firepit in our backyard and have one, but we're not allowed to use it if the wind is over 15km/h (9mph). Seems like too often the wind is blowing too hard, so we got the gas pit for those evenings. Works great.

 

Yeah it's like 80 degrees right now and I haven't been within five feet of this thing tonight.

 

Left the house yesterday at 3:30 pm. Clocked in at 5:00 pm. Clocked out at 4:59 am.

About 30 minutes away from a hot ass shower, two beers, and one pillow I'm finna give some head. Suckling on that OT teat for @onesojourner's reccomendation. Pile. Up. Cash.

Scheduled to work next weekend too which is after my interview.

I've had some horror stories from here, but all the other employers I've looked at so far are on a 2,2,3 schedule which minimizes cash flow for the company while ensuring a rested, and recharged work force.

I did that math, and depending on starting rate at different job it would be close to $22k annual pay cut.

My view point is this: I'm young, and energetic. I should be working everyday building my life's funding for future house purchase, and security. Days off aren't necessarily what I need currently.

I like to work, and often relish at the irony of some things elected by management. I find most of it hilarious even if it directly effects me.

I don't think I need to become accustomed to minimal work load so early in my life.

For example, if I can elect to work every weekend except those of my choosing then u can dump 2k in the savings account every two weeks. That's a big draw for me.

Any life advice, or reccomendedations are welcome as always. I value most of your all input.

Im sure there will be some gems posted about this while I snooze for a 12 hour double time shift tonight.

 

Grab the money now while you’re motivated, but definitely have a back up plan for when you burn out. I used to do a 3/1 (weeks) schedule out of state and it was a great money grab. I was able to pay off student loan debt insanely fast while also having a good time during that week off / doing a bit of traveling. At a certain point you will find life isn’t all about working to put money in someone else’s pockets (even if you are fattening yours at the same time).

 

There is one photo here I let slip in the early days where you can see some skin on my left digit. I call it a teaser shot. Surprised nobody has found it or maybe the Contract Photo Police are shadow banning it until it can be held against me?

 

Banking 4k a month? Thats pretty good. Guessing a decent starter home in your area (3 bed 2 bath) is $200k? Doable monthly mortgage with the extra cash!

Sequoia was flawless on the drive back from Daytona. Checked it this morning, top hose was collapsed again, like it knew it would be. Pulled the overflow bottle feeder hose and the neck into the tank was caked up with brown junk. Trimmed a bit off the neck, but it still needs something else to completely clean. I can at least see in the bottle now

I think you've got it right. Work hard, pile up cash while you are young & single.
Keep in mind a house is not a retirement fund. Housing market swings wildly. & when old, you will need a place to live, sell the house & where do you go? So be sure to be funding a retirement account in parallel to funding the house account. Consider 1st house as future rental unit, or aim for multifamily or "mother-in-law" unit you can live in while renting big space. Houses that pay for themselves, or help align with your goals. Right @Hooptytrix ?

When you get 'the house', you'll want time to do stuff to it. Then you'll want someone to make it less empty. Then you'll want time to spend with that someone - or they'll want it from you.
Market is pretty bloated, feels like nearly full "bubble" pricing. Waiting, working, piling cash is likely a good plan right now.

I'll just throw out there that room mates always come with issues & annoyances be they family, friend, an unknown found in an ad. But if they pay their rent, that can offset a lot of annoying.

One ... funny?... thing - you get into the habit of a workaholic young & it's hard to break rest of your life. makes it hard to be balanced later in life when you have your own family. Need overtime for buying a bigger place. Need o/t to fund that college fund. Need o/t to fund a 2nd college fund. Need o/t - the roof needs replaced. need o/t - the driveway is gonna need replaced next year. need o/t, wife needs a new car..... It's a cycle, habits follow through life - but as habits go, being a hard worker isn't the worst habit to have.

Another factor you may not be thinking about is that the calculation for Social Security when you retire is a weighted average of your income over the best consecutive 35 years. So it’s to your benefit to earn the most early in life while the weighting is much higher than later in life when you have a lot more experience and earn much more. This all assumes SS will still be around when you DO retire.

Any retirees please feel free to correct me if I’m misunderstanding how it’s calculated.

the women folk have this one right. If you get a basket (aka low box) for all those paint cans - lot easier to pull them all out in 1 & dig through for what you need than pull down can by can by can.

Also - I store my aerosol cans upside down. Don't know if real or fantasy but I figure the product in the can will block the gas from leaking out of a leaky top. Haven't had any gasless cans since I started doing that.
