Sounds like you’re talking yourself into it. I get it. Totally your decision.

My initial thought is it’s even easier to keep your truck, not overpay on a house or an HD truck, and buy a more modest TT. Imagine having no payments at all. All of the money that would be going to those debt obligations could be invested.

Yep! I bought my 2018 Laramie Cummins in 2020 with 35k miles for 53k and could probably sell it today for about 10k more!

Yah in 2019 i bought my sr5 4x4 Cm for $41k at that time the only other truck i was looking at was an expensive cummins tradesman for low $50k.

looking back $50k for a 4x4 cummins is a steal!

So I test drove a couple F-250 SD trucks. The 6.2 and the 7.3 - both nice trucks and ride way better than my Tundra. Pricing is crazy on these things. Both dealers offered me about $5k less than Carvana for my trade.

Did you show them the Carvana offer you got? When I bought my RAM the dealership tried to offer $5k less too so I showed them the offer I got from Carvana and they matched it. Worth a try

It was a bitter-sweet day. It broke my heart to give up my Tundra but being able to put my family of 6 into the new truck knowing that we can safely drag the Jayco and plenty of gear all over the U.S. made it worth it.

I did, it’s another sad story of shyster dealers unfortunately.

I called the dealer who had the truck I wanted and got a price on the truck, with a trade in they would sell it at MSRP, without a trade they add on $2500. I told them I had a Carvana offer and they said “no problem, we can match that.”

So off to the dealership I went. They gave me the numbers and were only offering me $39k for my Tundra, the Carvana offer was $44,100 and I had it printed out. They said “we can’t do that…so what can we do to to make a deal?” I said “give me the deal you told me over the phone and we’re good!” They flat out went against what they told me on the phone and wouldn’t match the offer, and I said “so you’re not honoring your word??” And the sales manager gave me a line of BS and I said “We’re done” and walked out.

Shysters - all of them. It’s worse now because of such low inventory and dealers have you by the short hairs and play more games.

I love the long bed trucks, unfortunately it’s a rare option for the 3/4 tons these days. Is that the SLE package?

It's the base, no-frills model. I would've liked a little more tech inside but this one was the only one not spoken for and I still had to go 300 miles to get it. It does have the 5th/goose prep which includes a spray-in bed liner. It also has the base convenience package, block heater, XM radio, trailer light test, and a pretty cool back-up cam which is can be left on at low speeds and for 8 seconds at a time driving. I am absolutely LOVING the carpet delete. Why on earth do trucks come with carpet?!?

Kinda funny that one of the first things we do as truck owners is get some weathertechs or husky liners to cover up the carpet.

IKR! When I bought my 05 2500 GMC dirtymax with the SLT package, my first mod was to have the dealership replace the carpet with the worktruck vinyl floor. Worth every penny!

I was an idiot and sold it a few years ago when I "thought" I was getting out of the travel trailer and off-road only vehicle towing duties. Owned it for 10 years and just over 175K miles and it is was hands down the most reliable vehicle that I have owned. Towed many a heavy load and other than a steering bushing, a pair of ball joints, some shocks, and a coolant level sensor I never did more than fill it with diesel and oil. Paid just a hair over 38K for it and sold it 10 years later for 24K (wish the market back then is what it is today). It stickered for ~45K at the time, but GM Financial and rebates at the time made it a no brainer when I was trading in a first year Nissan Titanic (what a POS that was, owned it for a whopping 33 days...but that is a story for another time).

I am not sure I would trust Carvana as a decent source. They were the lowest offer when I was shopping my 2015 Tacoma. They came in at 22K, Carmax offered a little over 24K, a local used car dealer offered me 25.5 (no trade, just a cash offer), and the toyota dealer I traded it into came in a just under 29K. I only paid 28.5 for it back in 2017 and put almost 60K on it.

Wow that is a nice base model. I guess it’s the blue color instead of the regular white base model.

I worked it into the deal, but i think it was ~1200 at the time (install labor was the majority of the cost)

Back then I was less conscious of my money spending :). Today I would buy the factory floor liner and do it myself and save a ton. Having gutted a tacoma interior to install sound deadening in the past, I know it aint rocket surgery...but then again, In many situations I would rather pay someone else to do the shitty work I don't want to tackle.

I wasn’t surprised with the price. There was a little joke in there someplace between you and I with that meme.

    1200 and not turn a wrench…sold.

No one said to trust them as a source he was the one that stated that Carvana offered him more. Sucks that the dealership refused to give him more on the trade in

Agreed. I just wanted to point out that Carvana might not be the best offer out there.

Overall, I am not surprised that a Big 3 dealer might not offer the most competitive trade - That probably helped me when I bought my 2 year old Taco from a Dodge shop a few years ago. Their price was substantially lower than what the local Toy dealers were asking for 2 year old low mileage Taco.

Carvana is offering me $4000 over what I paid new. The real problem is that the GMC 2500/3500 are all at MSRP and I don't think I can wait till prices become negotiable or if that ever becomes a thing again. The other thing is that most are in transit. I guess I will have to go in and work with a salesperson which is one thing I really hate. When I bought my Tundra I never spoke with my salesperson until the week I was going to pickup the truck.

Good input on 3/4 and 1 ton trucks here, could be very expensive to keep following this thread
