Traded my '18 DB TRD/OR 4x4 today for a '21 Crewmax TRD/OR 4x4. Looks like the exact same truck, with a shorter bed and bigger cab. Never thought I'd do it, but the wife and I are hoping to have kids in the near future and thinking the bigger cab will be something we'll want. I keep a lot of stuff in the back seat on the floor of my truck too, so it'll be nice to have more space there. I'd have probably waited, but fearing I may not like the next generation as much, I decided to make the move now.

Not a big fan of push-button start, but maybe I'll end up liking it. I think I'm going to really like the power back window. That's a new one for me. I like the new running boards better than my old ones.

Due to pick it up tomorrow. Debating what to do about the tires. I just replaced the stock Michelins on my '18 in December with Cooper AT3 4S tires. The Michelins rode well, but didn't wear well. Basically at about 25k miles, I had three decent tires and one that was worn out, after missing one rotation. Replaced with the Coopers, and this past winter I felt the new Coopers did a fair bit better in the snow than the Michelins ever did. Worked out a deal where they would swap the tires for me for free. I have about 3k miles on the Coopers at this point. Hard to say for sure if the swap is the right call, but I think I'm going to do it.

Here they are yesterday when I went to give it a look.

    - you will like the bigger back seat
    - it’s also fun to roll all the windows down and sunroof open.

    Enjoy!

You're gonna appreciate that extra room in the back, and your future kids will too. I switched from DC to CM during my truck shopping and have zero regrets since.

As the father of a rambunctious 3 (nearly 4) year old I can confirm that rear facing car seats in the back of a Double Cab Tundra are a pain in the ass. Had I known in 2007 that 10 years later I would be a father and still have the truck I would have gone Crewmax for sure.

    Thanks everyone!

Kind of sad to see the old truck go, but yeah, that additional cab space will be nice.

I was happy to come across it. It's at my closest dealer, same place I bought my '18. I started going by there now and then just to take a look. There were a couple times they didn't have a single new Tundra on the lot. Most times they'd have 2 or 3, sometimes 4. Drove in on Saturday and spotted this one. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Went by yesterday again, saw it was still there. Took the wife up today to take a look, just planned to think about it. Ended up signing papers.

When I bought my tundra in 2019 I was looking for a double cab but couldn't convince my wife because she wanted the crewmax. Till this day I thank her for putting her foot down lol. The kids love the extra space. Your kids will love it.

Keeping the Coopers I think it a good call. I have the Cooper AT3 XLT and they're great. I had a 2014 DC for 5yrs and loved it. Traded in for the 2019 CM and never looked back. It definitely has more room but less storage, I know, it doesn't make sense. Also I did put up with a baby seat for 3yrs in the DC. Now he can't kick the back of the seat. Congrats on the new truck.

Thanks, that's good to hear on the tire decision. It feels kind of odd to buy a new truck and trade off the brand new tires for tires that I already have some miles on, but the Coopers beat those Michelins pretty handily in the ratings. And this past winter, there was a pretty noticeable difference in snow performance with the Coopers in my opinion. There were places I was able to drive in 2WD with snow that I know even early on I'd have had to go to 4WD to make with the stock Michelins.

Love the power back window. I get more comments on it. Absent some incredible deal, I would not buy another Tundra without it!

I didn't like the push button on mine at first either. But after getting used to it I could never go back to a key. Enjoy!

Nice move, I agreed with your logic on the next gen, and I also think you will come to like the push start, I didn't want it at first with my 19 Taco, but loved it after a week, definitely wanted it when I got the 21 Tundra.

Note you can turn off the key fob so it does not transmit by pressing and holding the lock button while you press unlock twice. To confirm it is turned off the fob will flash a red light two times pause and two more times.
To start the fob transmitting again press any button. I turned off the spare to save the battery and turn off the one I use daily every night.

Interesting on the key fob thing, thanks. I haven't had a chance to run through the manual yet. That's good to know.

And yeah, I'm not sure if I'll grow to like the push button start or not. It is kind of nice to not have to dig a key out of my pocket, both to unlock and start.

One of the reasons I'm not to into the push button is an experience I had years ago. I was in Arizona with a guy for work and we had one car rental for the two of us, and it was a push button start. We had to be out at a site all day every day for two weeks, but only one of us needed to be there at a time. So in the morning, he would drive me out there, drop me off, go back to the hotel or do other things. Midday, he'd come back out, give me the car, take the rest of the day at the site and I'd leave. So one day I'm out at the site in the morning, he comes out midday and gives me the car without shutting it off. I hop in, get almost all the way back to the hotel before I realize, "I have no way to restart this thing when I shut it off". The other guy still have the fob in his pocket. Lucky I realized it before I shut it off.

Congrats on the purchase. I fully support upgrades for family!

Push button start is stupid and annoying. It’s a solution in search of a problem. Until suddenly you like it. Then magically it makes an ignition key feel like you have to pump the gas pedal a couple of times to prime the engine. It’s witchcraft

Something I've noticed in terms of DB vs CM that I hadn't thought of before buying... Visibility out of the CM, significantly better. I actually kind of worried more cab would lead to less visibility, but those big windows on the rear doors make it much easier to see.

No one has asked, or maybe I missed it. What did the dealership give you for your trade in ? Heard there's been a value surge in the market...

I had a similar experience except I was the one with the fob. My friends mom dropped us off at the airport and when I was in security realized I HAD THE FOB! I feel like you shouldn't be able to drive off without it. Maybe a warning or something....this was a Nissan but same difference. Luckily she was able to come back and we still made our flight...

The rental car we had was a Nissan too. This was 2007 though. There was an indicator lamp on on the dash meaning that the key fob was out of range, but it was small and not that noticeable.

But yeah, for that reason I kind of prefer the key to starting a vehicle be required to be inserted in the vehicle in some way.

When I go to the beach or near the water myself, I detach the physical key from fob and leave fob in the car and bring the key into the water together. Kinda convenient. Re push start, it is complicated to lock doors while leave the fob inside of the car. I think covering the fob in aluminum foil is not so reliable.

They gave me about $2k less than I paid for it 3 years and 28k miles ago.

According to KBB I could have done a good bit better private party obviously, but the trade-in route saves over $2k in sales tax on the new one, plus then I don't have to deal with cleaning it up and trying to sell it.
