A little history, 330k, original owner
I have done 80% of the repairs and maintenances, exclude tranny and tires

Love this truck. I have been using it for work, running everyday.

last week got new tires and went to customers house no start, no crank

tried jumping it, battery is new red top optima got it last year.

it seem like the starter was not engaging to flywheel. i can hear the starter click once and spins

all the acc, fan blows hard no dims.

ive replace 2 starters already on this truck and i went with denso last time. but this time i went to auto zone and bought their gold durlast. installed it and does the same thing. one click and hear the starter spinning but not engaging.

so i recheck the battery terminals and it was clean but looked underneath and saw this (see picture)

its the positive side going to engine that distributes out to everything. i cut back and seen its corroded further back from the o terminal.

could this be the issue and how would i go bout fixing it? what size gauge wire and any particular wire type?

thank you all, my first thread

If the starter is spinning and not engaging it sounds like you could have a worn spot on your flywheel. If possible you could turn the engine by turning the crank pulley bolt and get the flywheel to a different position and see if it will crank there in order to determine if you need a new flywheel. I'm definitely no expert it's just the first thing that comes to my mind.

You could have got a new starter with a bad solenoid. I would have put another denso in there.

Corrosion could cause many issues. Clean it up or replace the cable.

We’ve seen a few stories of others come through here with this same problem and it lead back to bad cables.

Two Starters is a lot of Starters to be going through so suspect something else.

parasitic draw? Not enough voltage to the starter motor?

Found the problem. Was the main positive harness. I slice the harness back 4 inches and broke up the corrosion and clean with wire brush. Starter right up. Thank you all for help

I'd replace that cable then. It should be orangeish wire. Maybe a tinge of green.
