    Hey guys,
New to the forum. Put in some time searching but didnt come up with anything close.

I just got my 2016 CrewMax 4x4 after my 2012 flooded in Hurricane Zeta.

    Here are the details:
2016 CrewMax 4x4 with 85k miles. Rough Country 3.5 level kit with spacers/upper control arms in the front, Rough Country shocks and spacers in the rear. KMC 20" wheels with 305 Ridge Grapplers on them.

I noticed today that in 4hi there is a noticeable clunking when taking slow speed turns. This happens when turning left or right. Truck tracks fine in a straight line in 2wd, 4ho or 4lo.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks for the help!

You're off the pavement when this happens right?

It’s probably binding at the low speed in the dry ground.

No. Noticed it today on a smooth paved road.

Yea, try to stay in 2wd on pavement. That's expected when in 4wd if the tires have traction.

I'd stay away from concrete when using 4wd, unless it is extremely wet. You have no traction control in 4x4 so the side you're turning to doesn't slow down the wheel speed, thus you're hearing that clunking because the tire has to break traction to continue turning... this isn't good for the front or rear diff, and as such you can end up binding your gears and ruining your 4wd. But if necessary to use 4wd on concrete, make extremely wide, slow turns, you'll feel the truck start to slow or "bog" down when turning on concrete in 4wd, which will show you that you are turning too tight.

It’s because you’re turning on pavement in 4wd. You should only be turning in 4wd when the front tires are able to slip.

Why are you in 4WD on pavement?
