2022 Tundra

I would guess the "world beating powertrain" is in reference to a hybrid. Given the 300 series is a worldwide debut, I would understand Toyota not introducing the hybrid powertrain as it will only be available in Europe and north America. Time will tell.

 

I think those power numbers are awesome and are way better than the current 5.7, especially for the folks higher up in altitude.

 

If the tundra gets the cruisers 3.5 I'm not impressed, it has already been beat power wise by the other manufacturers and they had a long long time to come out swinging for the fence with this truck, typical Toyota.

To all the other chatter about tundras are end all reliable big 3 are not, that's so dependent on one person's experience. My 17' tundra had cam tower leak at 21k miles burning oil of the manifold it was so bad, battery bit the ghost within 1.5 years and then it needed an alternator at 51k miles and front rotors at 30k... Does that mean tundras are junk?
Toyota had a long long time to get this truck right and they are barley keeping even with the others. Toyota has fallen behind on all there trucks, it's just a simple fact.

 

That what I love about diesel engines. Everyone want to throw out peak power numbers but how often are your driving at 5000+ rpm.

Thats why I love my little 100hp tdi. It makes all its torque where you drive it and just pulls for days. 5th gear up and down hills the rpm stays locked in.

Does anyone know the full details on the diesel? I'm curious if it uses any kind of ducted fuel injection like the patent that came out last summer was pointing to....

 

Toyota’s “world beater” isn’t going to be the TTV6, it will be the TTV6 w/ the hybrid option. Not sure if it will actually be the world beater they claim but the instant torque from those electric motors in addition to the TTV6 is probably what they are thumping their chest over

 

Yeah Ford already does that pretty convincingly.

 

So are the bumps on the hood that we've seen from the photo for the turbo or more for aerodynamics?

 

Second photo we seen with those fenders. I would say that’s what the new truck will look like along the side.

That just looks to me like a terrible photoshop onto the current gen cab and they changed a couple other small things like when they photoshopped the grill onto the current Titan. I'd expect an all new cab design

 

Poor photoshop effort. Bed is way too short. Look how little of lower fender in front and behind rear wheel

 

It wouldn't be very smart to compete against the world's best selling truck with an identical motor. Toyota really needs a "world beater" or I dont really see a good reason to consider the next Tundra. Just my two cents

 

You don't know that at all. 2022 Tundra will have recall, recall, recall too. See what I did there.

 

That's last generation ford tt3.5. Current is 400 hp/ 500lb-ft.

Power boost is 430 hp/570 lb-ft.

 

Grille looks accurate I’d say. Rendering is missing the hood bulges and they’ve got the 3 width lights up front but none out back. I think a college intern that takes public transit whipped this up on his 3rd day. That rear 3/4 photo is sexy though, whether it’s accurate or not.

Maybe it will be a 4.0l TT. A stroked 3.5.

 

So many good opinions Gents. Honestly, where else can you get this information and speculation.
I read that some are comparing the Tundra truck to f250s or 2500s or Similar trucks. There are plenty of hard working Guys who own businesses, Are managers, Have Landscaping companies, Do estimates…. A wknd Dad who hauls a Camper on occasions , maybe gets mulch or lumber and doesn’t need to tow a 15k trailer everywhere.
That’s the area the The Tundra is looking to make the groove in. If they Carve that out, improve on it, expand it to reach some more buyers with better mpg…. payload…. and Better style- That isn’t a bad thing!
Obviously!!!!!!!!!!!!! The New Tundra will be better than What is available previously. Would be pretty fn Dumb now wouldn’t it to hold off for so many years , only to make a Equivalent design that’s slightly different.

I find it so funny everyone is needing specs now, even though for over a year now we've known it wouldn't be released until at least Q4. Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't plan out buying a vehicle seriously 6 months out. So if I wanted a new vehicle now even if the 2022 specs were out of this world I would get something now. Specs are meaningless, I want trucks on the lot and as of yet they haven't deviated anything yet from planning pertaining to that since it's not Q4 yet.

Sure it's nice to know, but a new spec release doesn't change what's in my driveway.

 

I would not be surprised if the 3.5 tt numbers get bumped up for the Tundra. The land cruiser isn't coming to the U.S. as of now. The rest of the world isn't as concerned with power as we are. They could easily bump those numbers up for the U.S market so that it beats the competition, just add a little more boost and tuning and it beats anything else out there.

Sounds to me like he talked himself out of it being a diesel.

 

If it’s a fully boxed frame I’ll probably get one, which I’m assuming it is, to accommodate the rear link mounts. It’ll be my off road/camping vehicle. Junk hauling and towing will be secondary. I plan to move closer to the mountains in one or two years too so I guess the turbos could help. I’ll satisfy my V8 supercharger growling urge with my Lexus. Sequoia could work too but I’ll wait to see what nifty stuff they do with the IRS.

 

Junk hauling and “dirty” work is what my 2007 Tundra is going to be doing if I get a new one.

 

That’s what my new truck is for I’m not paying for insurance on 2 trucks

 

Insurance doesn’t cost me much, not worried about it.
