Saw this on the TundrasToSedona site and am just wondering what the heck is going on. What would be the advantage? The Tundra seems like the basic 3-4" build but this leaf spring setup has me lost. Is it for rock crawling or just someone being crazy for the show. Absolutely no offense intended just thought I had seen most things with our truck. I only showed the lower part of truck as did not want to show license plate or person in pic. 344345.jpg

Plus, this truck does in no way look like the built for taking the kid to school. This thing looks like its ran some extreme s&%t and is not shy about it.

I do believe that is Alex’s desert bomber.

    @osidepunker

You could check in with the long travel sub forum. Good guys, but be warned, you may not be able to recover financially.

It’s a spring under Long Travel. And if that’s Alex’s truck, those are 3” wide leafs. Far from basic.

Thanks for the quick responses. Looked up his truck. Mostly just curious about something I hadn't seen before.

    SUA - Spring Under Axle

    The advantage:
More up travel to go fast over rough stuff
    Less axle wrap

List goes on but those are the main ones

Haha, you got that right, he's not at all shy about driving that truck. I've seen him go so hard through whoops that w/o damaging the truck he set off the air bags. Much as I hate to feed his huge ego, he's a really good driver and a shit ton of fun to hang out with.

I can neither confirm nor deny that by entering his or my thread or any other LT thread we participate in may or may not cause you to dump 6 figures into your truck :anonymous:

Everyone, 'cept my wife, will believe that 6 figures is a huge exaggeration. But, if you don't go LT right from the start, all the baby steps to there add up...... so I'm told.

That’s because the geometry is incorrect. But I heard he’s taking advanced calculus so he can correct everything.

That’s a long travel setup. The leafs are moved under the axle to allow for more axle to frame clearance.

remember the cost of a full LT tundra is 20-30k for parts, labor and fabrication. Additionally we are talking about everything on our trucks. I mean custom interior and PRP seats, all the electrical, custom stuff, redoing things over time and improving . Bumpers, sliders frame stiffening and boxing… hell 1 set of wheels and tires is 3500+

Please explain how? Also doing a LSK link kit is maybe a little more but we also don’t want just full trophy truck travel we find a happy balance for all off-roading types and leafs is better for us. Additionally @831Tun made the point but we have had many iterations of our suspension setups spring over spring under different leaf packs, different shock valving… that all costs $ when your pushing trucks to the limits. And it’s just $$ can’t take it with you!

You have to stop telling me that last line :D I'm mostly giving you shit, though I would be surprised if your normal LT truck, even with labor if someone isn't doing anything themselves, is in the $100k of parts range. Not that I'd call it cheap, but let's say $40k for the suspension, $10k for a supercharger, $10k for a built transmission, $10k for gears and lockers with stock axles, $10k for seats and lights and wiring and wheels and tires, $10k for the world's fanciest armor. I guess that's $90k, and if you do literally nothing yourself but drop it off at SDHQ then you'd be $100k range... Well I guess I proved myself wrong  and realizing how expensive it is to pay someone to do that :D

@snivilous Help me out here cause I don't know how we'd get more travel out of the front. Our CVs and OEM diff seem to be limiting travel. Axles are binding around the 16-17" range. Even with the LSK and an additional 2" width the travel increase is maybe an inch from the real world examples I've seen. Roy's truck with the LSK links and 20"+ rear travel works well but at some point, IMO, you're building the rear too far beyond the ability of the front and wasting money.
Sometimes I think I've spent almost enough to buy the TT and maybe that's your point? Regardless, if you've got any ideas I'd love to hear 'em.
Thanks for putting me in the proper box.
