Hello members, I'm new here, but not new to Toyotas. I've had several and I currently have a Land Cruiser 80. I'm looking at a rust free Tundra from Cali with 315k on the clock for a very reasonable price. It does need some mechanical work including both CV axles. Toyota sells them for $405 a piece but I've seen them aftermarket for as low $195 for a set. I imagine those are garbage but are there decent quality axles without breaking the bank? ALSO what's you all think of a 2000 with 315k miles with pretty decent maintenance records?

Depends on price. What other mechanical work does it need? Welcome to the forum!

Thanks! It needs both cv axles, a couple tie rod ends, left rear leaf spring, front brake pads, rotors, calipers and it is 90k miles since it's last timing belt job.

Ye. Had me front end rebuilt a few years ago and they put on some aftermarkets. In retrospect, would have spent extra for the Toyotas CV. Will be going back with Toyota in a few years on the next rebuild.

Always pays to go OEM but hoping I can do this on a budget, I've got to much money tied up in my "projects"!

The engine and transmission would honestly be less of a concern for me. Rear differential bearings, AirCon compressor, PS pump, fuel injectors.. all those ancillaries that wear over time will no doubt need attention soon. Hows the interior? Has it been sun soaked for the last 20 years? I guess it depends on how much the truck is and how badly you want it.

    Welcome aboard! @Cruiserhound

I'm at 22 years and 260k miles and none of those things have failed on mine yet (knock on wood).

    Yours is just broke in!

You are correct, though.. Every one of these trucks is a little different. It all depends on how well it's been maintained. He mentioned lots of service records, so it's possible that many of those wear items have been taken care of as well.

It'll be interesting to know what the price is.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! If the truck was taken care of, it ought to have many more miles in it. If you can't get good maintenance records, it may be worth having all the major maintenance items addressed just to avoid surprises.
