Do I need to disconnect the battery to swap out my Halogen headlights w/new 2021 Leds using iHacker harness?

Yeah. I did this install last week and disconnecting the battery was one of the first steps.

Was it absolutely necessary? Not sure, but it is pretty easy.

Always a good idea to disconnect the battery

Edit: I would also suggest hooking up the new headlights, and connecting the battery to make sure everything works before bolting up everything.

^ I concur with both of these posts

If even 1 fuse popped for whatever reason, it could be time consuming figuring out which one...
    Better safe than sorry...

If you had any inclination to put LED bulbs in the parking lights and/or turn signals, this would be the time to do it..
Turn signals you can get to after installing, but tight.
Parking lights the headlight have to be removed to swap.

Parking lights are LED amber 194
Turn signals are LED amber 7440

Some LED turn signal bulbs require resistors to avoid hyper-flash, some don't.

Good video for removing the grille and headlights..
    You'll need a small screwdriver and a 10MM socket.
Also a few junk towels or blankets for padding...

    https://youtu.be/dQL73uPX4Es

Be careful with the headlight tabs..

    Good luck...

@1lowlife - I ordered the custom harness that you had iHacker make. I love it and it was super easy to install. Thanks! :hattip:

    Go slow, take your time.
Lay a towel on the bumper when you pull and install your lights to protect from scratching them.

I've had my headlights out and grille off so many times in the last 6 years, I can get it on and off in 15 minutes...
Thankfully with the LED headlights, I don't have to change bulbs anymore.

You got this. It's not that bad, just looks like a lot.

I also use painters tape to tape off painted areas adjacent to the headlight areas and part of the headlights to prevent any scratches

Thank you all for the quick responses as well as encouragement! I live in Palm Springs, Ca so it was already about 85 degrees when I started my headlight swap and I was not looking forward to hanging out in the garage all morning. Fast forward a couple hours later and I was able to finish up before it hit 100. It probably took longer than expected as I kept checking, rechecking and double checking everything as I went. Thanks to @iHacker for making an AWESOME harness, as well as posting install instructions on this site, I literally just followed along exactly and it all worked flawlessly. Thanks to @Gfgneo for the Led platinum headlights, 100% improvement over my 2016 halogen. I wish I had a better pic, but it's very bright out today. Anyway, you all get the picture!

Ok, so how is the pattern on low and high beams? I’m very happy with my Auxbeams on low, but high isn’t nearly what I expected. Did your originals have the amber DRLs that were also blinkers? How much did you pay for the headlights?

thanks in advance… really struggling with cost/benefit….

Honestly, I haven't driven at night yet so I really don't know. I am leaving on Sunday for vacation, so I won't know until then. All I know is they HAVE to be better than the halogens, there's no way they can't be. Mine were on a 2016, yes I believe they had the amber DRLs and blinkers. I paid $475.00 from a member who upgraded to pros on his new platinum. I would have upgraded regardless, but was gonna wait for sales around the holidays. Either way it was gonna happen.

I believe so but not 100%. When I did mine in 2019, the TRD Pro was the only one with black bezel.
