@empty_lord, here's my investigative pictures for fog light wiring. I'm not 100% sure what some of these doo-dads do...

Starting off with the drivers side behind the headlight looking into the bumper cavity on the far outside of the bumper.
    20210527_055030.jpg

Whatever that connector is, it goes to a box that's attached to the body inside the bumper cavity. Here's a picture as seen from below looking up.
    20210527_054528.jpg

Moving to the passengers side which was pretty meh. Found some suspicious wiring that looks like it's been taped off.
    20210527_054948.jpg

I didn't see any connector of any kind on this side. There is a wire loom that runs down somewhere, but I'm pretty sure it goes down to either a windshield washer fluid float sensor, or something else as I never found it's termination/connector.

    RockAuto links below.
    upload_2021-5-27_7-19-46.jpg

TYC 620630 Radiator fan/shroud reservoir built in. $50.99
    DENSO 2344233 $40.79

    Total Cost: $91.78 + S/H.
Based on parts... I think Toyota wants me to assemble the fan/reservoir, fan motor, fan blade, and fan nut??? Anyways, here's links to those too. Sheesh.

Fan Shroud - Toyota (16711-0D072) $106.61 General search link.
    Fan Motor - Toyota (16363-0D040) $251.14
    Fan Blade - Toyota (16361-0D090) $76.48
    Fan Blade Nut - Toyota (90099-05164) $9.15

    Total Cost: $443.44 + S/H.

Although, only the reservoir is cracked. Fan, Nut, and motor are still good. Could easily be reused. Hmm...
Anyone is welcome to chime in at anytime here.

Doesn’t look like your wires for fogs.

That weird wire is a clump
Of grounds if I remember right. Normal

    For my future records...
    upload_2021-5-27_7-37-40.jpg

When I turned the rear defrost on cruising at 50mph I noticed a significant dimming of the headlights, and the battery light on the cluster came on very dimly. Went off when I turned rear defrost off, and then started tinkering with other electrical things. Fan speeds, radio, etc. All seemed to make headlights weaker, but return to normal once items were turned off.

Popped the hood when I got home. Toyota service record indicate the following things. September of 2020, 126,469 miles.
    upload_2021-5-27_7-47-43.jpg

    March of 2019. 119,342 miles.
    upload_2021-5-27_7-50-49.jpg

December of 2018. 118, 074 miles. I'd bet it was an AutoBones special.
    upload_2021-5-27_7-52-59.jpg

    July of 2018. 116,253 miles.
    upload_2021-5-27_7-56-20.jpg

This is obviously not everything that's ever been done to the car, but this is the "Major" work, and now its here in my build thread so I dont have to through prompt, after prompt after prompt on toyotaowner.com.

Yeha, that was kinda my thoughts. Sorta bummed that I didn't find them as they were so very easy to find on the tundra.

Earlier that day, I was chatting with a friend of mine about him getting an economical daily driver instead of his 1998 Dodge diesel truck.
    I recommended a 2003+ Corolla.
In the evening, I log into the forum and see this thread, so of course I had to check it out lol!

I had a little hiccup tonight that I was going to post about. Halfway home from work my cruise was not working. So I'm tinkering with it while I'm driving trying to figure out in my brain what's wrong.

The floor shifter said I was in drive and everything was operating as it should. RPM's were good, mile per hour was good, power was normal. When I turned left at my halfway point, my RPM's went to 3000 at 35 miles per hour with no power. I called dad and we discussed possible issues. I accidentally bumped the gearshift back in to drive cruise worked and everything was operating as normal again.

It turns out that even though the shifter said I was in drive I was really in 2nd gear or 2. Which is why cruise didn't work and my power and RPM's were affected. Is it possible that the shift lever or linkage between the shifter and the transmission is loose?

@FirstGenVol using your Mcgeorge plan for OEM parts I placed an order today through them.

New trim plate for drivers side door. Grain to grip. X1
    New headlights L/R.
    Turn signal sockets. X2
One new cigarette lighter bulb to tinker with the old one since accessing this cars 12V plug is so much easier than our tundras.

Total cost with shipping of all of that was still less than what just left/right headlights would have been through local stealership, and another online vendor I was looking at.

    Thank you so much.

I’m guessing you’ll get lots more miles out of this one. My wife had an 04 that she got new right after college. She drove it into the ground and is terrible at doing any maintenance (before we got married lol.) We sold it about a year ago with 260k on the odometer to a buddy of mine looking for a beater. Still runs like a champ. He drove it to Kentucky and back to pick up his new Yukon and had no issues.

Well, it's not my truck, and I need to see them deer. I dont see any point in dropping 2k into the suspension on this one... so a few cheap creature comforts and two necessary evils later I've got a refund????

The truck is mine, and still here. Never getting rid of it. I'll wrap it around a tree, or deer and still probably buy it back from insurance

I thought about projectors. It'd be interesting to try. Maybe I could run a soft propane line to grandma's stove in the storage shed to avoid stank in the house. What's more likely to happen is me just hang onto the old housings just in case, and me tinker with a restoration kit.

I’ve got a car I’ll be doing the 9012 Bulb HIR Retro-fit into soon on 10 year old assys. Had to be careful in ordering the bulbs, as you need the HIR version.

I made a few upgrades to LED today.

Starting with the one I'm most proud of. Below are pictures of my first prototype with an LED bulb soldered straight into the pins for the cigarette plug light.
    20210530_230750.jpg
    20210530_230809.jpg
I learned today that if you don't "condition" your power with resistors an LED light just goes pop. I tried two leds before I came to that conclusion. Luckily, Superbrightleds.coms neowedges are easy to take apart. Here it is below soldered onto the pins, and tied in to test.

I also changed the white LED in the gearshift to a green LED. Also from superbrightleds.com. Here is the before picture.
    Prindel before .jpg
Now the after with the cigarette plug light changed too!
    Prindel after.jpg
    Prindel after 1.jpg
My backordered green 4mm neowedes aren't in yet so I haven't changed any of the HVAC stuff.

I did change the window switch light just like I did on my Tundra.

Removed the rear view mirror, and swapped in some Canbus LEDs I had on hand.

What is this ‘Conditioning’ of the LED you speak? Glad to see you using the PHM Method on the Cig Light albeit I didn’t use solder or the old resistors. Looks like a lot of work vs a straight bulb swap?

I'm not sure if "Conditioning" is the proper word. I know I tried two LED bulbs that were the exact same bulb I used in the window switch. I'd plug them up, and they would illuminate for half a second, and then "pop." With a audible sound when the led was discombobulated, and ruined.

I desoldered, and soldered two LEDS before trying the Neowedge.
    20210530_234934.jpg
The neowedge has these things. One is a resistor (on the right) and the other one on the left is :notsure:. This is the only difference between my straight bulb, and SBL light chip flush mount. They must alter the raw 12V power some how to make it more LED friendly.

This is actually straight bulb swap. I bent the pins from a 3MM neowedge straight, and removed the bulb chip from the plastic dash insert it came in. I actually think this was easier than the mangling I did on my truck.

There was no destruction/reforming of the grey plastic turn lock this time. No superglue like last time. No mangling.
    • Released pins, and bulb.
    • Used solder wick to remove old bulb from pins.
    • Bent neowedge pins straight and removed neowedge light chip with resistors from SBL turn lock base.
    • Shaped neowedge pins into proper U-shape for OEM turn socket installation.
    • Soldered pins onto OEM turn socket pins.
    • Installed in OEM turn socket.
    • Tested operation.
It sounds like a lot, but it's really not. I enjoyed this challenge, and would happily do it again.

Okay, there was a slight burn from an accident with the soldering iron. Not intentional, but doesn't affect the twist-lock function.

Guess the system finally completed it's reset. wonder if they cleared the codes before you took it out for a test run?

Agree on dislike. I ran the codes before purchase.

Wallering around last night I noticed one of the rubber hoses on the Evap canister by fuel tank looked a little worse for wear last night. I'll start there, and see if that's it. Went to the local dump, and then went to the skool to play on phone, and annoy everyone in the Poll thread. Car would start, but not run. Idle down real low, and kick off.

That Haynes manual I have doesn't show specs or tests like the manual for the tundra that is OEM. Just shows how to change parts.
    :annoyed:

MAF looks off brand so I'll see what denso number is. I'll change that hose out on EVAP canister if I have something proper diameter on hand.

I pulled positive cable off battery, and let sit. Reinstalled, and fired up. Did okay so I just drove her home. Gonna check out that hose, and cross reference denso part numbers.

Cross referencing parts based on suspicion/hunch of similarity.

    Close, but no cigar. LOL

Can confirm off brand MAF based on big gurl pics. No writing except date on mine.

    Double confirmed with RockAuto.
    upload_2021-5-31_20-56-29.jpg

    RockAuto price: $72.79

Big Gurl Price: $59.50 (Not including shipping.)

Big gurl wins this round unfortunately. Local auto stores have to order most denso parts, but keep universals on hand.

Checking on Downstream 02 sensor because ordering parts.

    Big Gurl Price: $44.53

RockAuto Price: $40.79 (Not including shipping.)

Including thread chaser for 02 sensors. I'm assuming that it is the same thread as V8 trucks. M18X1.5. I can't find my 02 sensor thread specs listed anywhere.

I will be using the PHM method when time comes.

Gave a quick search on local auto stores items out of curiosity... Autobones wants the following prices for the following

    upload_2021-5-31_21-42-59.jpg
    upload_2021-5-31_21-45-7.jpg

    Local Autobones potential cost: $218.97 + 6% KY sales tax = $231.31
Big Gurl total with KY sales tax: $124.07

    $231.31-$124.07= $107.24 in cost savings.
