    What should I do?

During the install of my new SCS wheels there was some damage to the paint/coating around the lug hole. It bothers me since they are brand new. I tried not to be a pain but asked them to please not scratch during install.

After install I noticed this and not sure if to inquire with installer on fixing or move on.

I had the same thing at DiscountTire, they rush so much that they don't pay attention. I now take cash and tip the installer to pay extra attention to my wheels when removing and installing, not sure if it helps or not but better then nothing.

Yeah it was Discount Tire. I really like the company and specifically gave them my business because I trust them. I asked for the best tech to do the install which I could tell was careful but pretty sure another guy started bolting one on with the rattle gun and there you have it.

I don’t want to complain but again it bothers me since brand new wheels.

I'm sure there's nail polish that matches or gets really close that you can dab on there.

Just make sure the manager lets the technician know to hand tight only. I would also check to make sure the technician gets that order.

Especially if they are new wheels, I be pissed off, too.

They have provisions for dealing with this type of damage. Have them make it good.

America’s Tire did the same to my SCS wheels but I did not notice until I got home. It was very frustrating - I even wrapped the spline key with electrical tape to minimize the metal to metal contact.

Are your wheels Gunmetal? This is what I used to touch up my wheels and it is a good match (this is what SCS recommended):

New or old...they damaged your wheel. They need to make it right. And "right" for you is up to you to decide.

Don't be one of those guys that brings up such topics on the internet for validation before taking action.

same thing happened to me with my methods last week, honestly just gonna touch it up since it was only one little nip on a grey finish, but next time i'm going to discount tire and if they damage it I'll hold them accountable, no more local shops I'll be going to a place that has an insurance policy in place for this situation keep in mind I always leave a tip and ask for better care than usual politely, I notice all the imperfections but can't ever find a shop that takes care of our things

100% make them buy you a new wheel. Also try to get them to let you have the damaged wheel for a matching spare tire.

Discount Tire will make it right. My local store swapped a brand new set of tires with only a couple hundred miles on them because they would not balance. Did not even blink before offering a new set of a different tire. This was on my commuter car, not the Tundra.

Discount Tire made it right! Although damaged the wheel, customer service is outstanding.

I had a similar situation with my Tacoma a few years ago. I took my brand new SCS wheels into townfair tire, the wheels were still in there boxes in the back of the truck. I purchased new tires from townfair tire. I asked the service manager to come out to my truck, i opened the boxes and proceeded to inspect the wheels before they put them on the truck for any damage, no damage was found from the factory, as there shouldn't be anyway. I told him I expect the wheels to be in the same condition when they are done putting the new tires on the wheels and the wheels on the truck. He looked at me and said "He is not interested in my business if I am going to be that picky". He refunded me the money for the tires I just purchased and asked me to leave. WOW he was an ass. I never did get those wheels installed on the truck, traded it in 2 years later for my Tundra. Sold the wheels when i traded the truck in. guess the point is, there are no good tire shops around. There "tire changes" as i like to refer to them as, are all kids who just don't care about other peoples property.

Dont go to town faire tire, dont go to sullivan tire, and jesus christ please dont ever go to VIP. Chains dont care, dont need your business, and dont pay enough to make people want to care. Theres a reason why my local trusted mechanics have to be scheduled 2 weeks in advance whereas I can drop by any of those chains same day and get my car in within 30 minutes. Its the same with oil changes.

Having them try to order an SCS wheel would be a pain and who knows how long it would take since inventory is sporadic... Next best thing was have them credit my purchase at the cost of one wheel. They made it “right” in my mind so I’m okay with it.

Now it’s up to me if I wanna track down a bronze Ray10 and have this damaged one as my spare.

SCS's Tundra inventory is very sporadic - I think that you got a good deal. I would call Vin and see what paint he recommends for touching up the bronze. If you have changed your tire size from stock then a matching spare is really good to have.

As someone who worked for them for 8 years, I'm glad to hear but not surprised they made it right to your satisfaction one way or another. Accidents happen, it's how they respond that matters.

That said, that gash is bullshit and is totally preventable. I always told my guys slow is smooth, smooth is fast. The trigger isn't where we make time getting cars out.

It's getting harder to find good help. Few want to actually work these days.

that sucks however not the first time I read about paint chipping easily on new SCS wheels.
It's gonna be tough replacing it from SCS though.
I would just touch up the wheel and maybe get a gift card from DT

This happened to my advan RGD2s at America’s tire as well. The manager told them to do it by hand and to be extra careful because of the price of the wheels and they were new. They offered to buy a new wheel. Unfortunately it will take six months to get my replacement, so I decided to live with the damage and had them use that price for the wheel towards new tires on another vehicle. They are a huge company and will work with you. Glad they fixed it for you. They make so much money it’s nothing for them.

I don't take my vehicles to any of these places anymore. I found a shop in my town that has been in business for over 40 years. And yes, i have to make an appointment when i need my vehicle looked at. Whats nice is shop sends me a text and an email to let me know my vehicle is do for inspection or oil change. Something you don't find in a small auto repair shop. And they do excellent work.

I can tell you from their side, it's not nothing, and the manager was more than likely royally pissed off. However, now that it's happened, it's much less expensive for him in the long run to make sure you're satisfied than let you leave upset.
