Hi there, new this Forum, I bought my 2003 Last Wednesday.... I have spent a bit searching the web for data on this thing, but data I have found is the same as on Amazon. Virtually NOTHING, but I did figure out this ...
"These things are simple toys with limited use as a reference tool".

OK, That being said, as far as install, I can indeed help.
1 - you will need a 12v to 5v converter. This unit needs 5 volts ONLY!

2 - TRS is a Tip Ring Sleeve a connector.
Tip is the Left Channel, Ring is the right channel, and sleeve is Ground.

4 wires to this connector means you need to tie Right ground to left ground and solder it to the appropriate pin.The left ch hot goes to tip, right hot goes to ring! Plug the TRS male into the TRS female and grab a VOM and Ohm it out. Easy to do, also verifies the connectors are making good contact with each other.

The fact that the input to this thing is TRS from a USB cable, I am assuming, since no verifiable data has been found otherwise, that it takes a Pre-Amp level of audio to work correctly.
If you are trying to monitor speaker levels you probably need a Hi level transformer to handle the voltage levels and knock them down to a Line level.
If your system has Pre-Amp outs, just use these to drive this unit!
If your Pre-Amp outs are already in use to drive a power amp, just add a "Y" cord and that way equal level will get to both meter and PA!
Hopefully the input impedance's are close, or the meter has super high impedance , so you don't get a big loss of signal to the PA!

    Hope this helps!
