Good Wheel/Rim and Tire Size for a 2.5" Lift?

Hey guys,

What's a good tire and rim size to go with for an 04 AC with a 2.5" lift? More so a 2.5" lift. I've seen guys MAKE 35's fit...but I don't want to cut anything so was thinking either 31 or 33 at most. Ideas for rim size?

I was going to go with either this 2.5" lift:

ARB/OME 2.5" Performance Lift Kit - comes with springs, leaflet, shocks

or

Bilstein 5100 0-2.5" lift front, 0-2" rear shocks - comes with shocks only

The ARB/OME is double the price of the Bilstein's but I am fine with that as it comes with new springs and leaf insert.

EDIT: Also was told to replace the existing LBJ with new OEM LBJ. Does that make sense or is there something else I should go with that will last longer given the 2.5" lift?

Pros/cons of different lifts are also in the suspension forum. There is good info on both suspensions you mention on this site, just search- upper right. Either set up is going to be firmer than stock, but that is not necessarily bad, depending on what you want.

Some love 5100s, others think they ride too bouncy. OME suspensions are tuff, install and forget it. They do run higher lift than advertised on a stock truck, so if you are not running a heavy bumper/winch you will probably want the "light" springs which are still about 10% heavier than stock. Side note- I have run OME on other vehicles and currently run OME on my 06 4runner- been on the 4runner for 5-6 years and 60k miles and still rides like it was installed last week.

 

*A lot of guys run a 16 or 17 in wheel. Just watch the backspace and offset. 4.5 to 4 inches of backspace are the sweet spot on 1st gens. Spacing on oem wheels can be adjusted with wheel spacers if you decide to go that route

I’ve got a 16x8 method wheel w/ 4.5 inch backspace and 0 offset

*max tire size on 1st gens without a ton of cutting is 285/75/16 or 285/70/17.

currently on 265/75/16s but gonna be stepping up to 285’s

 

Depending on how many miles, replacing the springs is a good idea. But if you want to carry extra weight in the bed, research a bit on the springs.

I agree with info above re offset. I prefer a 16” wheel so you have more options... air down off-road, etc. I think this a a good tire size: 285/75/16. Sometimes it’s close w/o trimming anything, but alignment makes the difference (caster forward of specs performs well and keeps the tires off the body mount at full lock).

Sometimes new UCA’s are needed to get the alignment to work with a lift. That’s where you should research to know what comes with those kits, and em whether you’ll need different UCA’s.

 

I’m running 6112 in the front and 5100s in the rear with camburg uca. Wheels are method 0 offset on ko2 285/70/17

def replace the ball joints with oem. I had to do more cutting then I read about when I did my set up. Mudflats and pinch welds are a must. I read so many write up and watched a ton of videos. I still rub at full lock to the left (rub on frame). Tried to cure it with spacers and it only caused me to cut more fender. Solved the frame issue but now when I stuff the tire the fenders will fall off.

Also consider if you will be doing any off roading and how the tire will stuff.

If you don’t want to cut or do anything run 31s on a 16 or 17 wheel.

 

2003 AC 4x4. King coilovers. FN 17x8 4" bs.. -10 offset. 285 70r17 tires.

@AWilliams - WOW that setup looks amazing!!! Would you happen to have some pics from the front and/or back? I want to see how flush the tires are with the truck or how much the tires stick out - thanks.

I'd like to do a little off-roading but really that would be few and far between given I don't want to destroy the truck and cut away at fenders and trim.

285 70r17 sounds reasonable as I don't want to go too large either due to not wanting to have to change my gear ratios as well so my 0-60 is faster than 25 seconds.

 

I can get some pics tomorrow. The fronts poke about 1/2" out, the rears are pretty flush. I did have some minor rubbing on the inside of the mudflap at full crank....entering/exiting driveway type stuff so I did take my mud flaps off the front. The fender flares have a weird knob on the end of them now...oh well. Tires are real close to fender at full crank. Mines a street queen so any compression while off roading may be worse for you. I also have TC UCA's.

1/2" in the front and flush in the is exactly what I am looking for. I don't know why with these Tundra's, the rear is wider...so annoying especially when trying to accomplish a nice flush look haha.
