Magic! New Interstate battery adds 100 miles in fuel range

My battery (OEM, 3.5 years old) gave up the ghost unexpectedly yesterday in my work parking lot. Oddly, Sunday a back window failed to go up; I thought it was my 6 year old boy overheating the motor because after 3-4 minutes it went back up. Maybe that was a warning? Anyway…

I swapped the original battery for an Interstate and fueled up today. My truck historically has a range on full of about 340 miles (don’t get me started on these puny tanks) with an average efficiency of about 16mpg. After fueling full, my range recalibrated to 426 miles to empty. I drove about 40 miles between battery swap yesterday and fueling today and my average MPG is about right at 16.

So… what’s with the new forecast??

 

Disconnecting the battery resets the range computer. Run a couple tanks through it and it will be back on track.

 

Just disconnect your battery before every fuel up and that magically feeling will stay with you.
