Are you doing this yourself or is a shop/dealer doing it? If so, how much are they charging? I need to get this done soon.

Shop is doing it. Denso parts only.
$860. Bit stiff, but given the amount done.. it is what it is. I wouldn't dare touch the Trans and getting a bit long in the tooth to be laying on a concrete slab for half the day

Keep in mind, these are California prices.

That's a great price if you're getting new rotors and pads too.

Agree, with pads and rotors and saving a day on your back, well worth it. Especially considering this is probably the most expensive maintenance and repair you have likely done with a toyota.

I'm younger and don't mind being on my back working on my vehicles myself. But if you want to knock out another thing fairly easy and don't have to be on your back, MAFS and throttle body cleaning, only $20 in cleaner ($10 each cleaner) and an easy DIY, knocked out my Tacoma and my lady's Focus in under an hour a few months ago

It is by far the largest maintenance day since new.
So far only oil changes and air filters. Not anymore. If you take those past services st about $80 x 5 (50k )miles, plus an air and cabin filter ($50)

    450+ 860= $1,310 ÷ 6 years (almost) 218.33 per year excluding tires. Not bad.

Humm.. in my '16 all I ever did was oil changes and had just rolled 100K miles. Did change out the brakes at about 60K like you. Never did anything else though. Ran like a champ.

Yes and no. Not trying to be cryptic. I had some wheel wiggles under moderate braking over 35-40 mph to about 65mph. No squeaks or pulling. Had 7mm of Pad left, but wasn't going to try and true a Rotor or two at 60k and deal with the new pads bedding on a thinner Rotor to.be back in the shop with the wiggles again. Rather see him at 120k and do it over again..lol

It's an individual decision. Just following the book. Toyotas always run like Champs, but they need fresh fluids..

Why are the rotors needing replacing after 60k? Do you do a lot of heavy towing? Or as you just having them machined?

i think its because of the known vibration issue with these trucks and generally unspectacular OEM brakes.

The AF was quoted in the cost per year and done at 30k. I'm likely to change again once at 60k by myself, purchasing through Amazon. Same with cabin. I can't screw that up..hahaha
Coolant is 100k per the book.

Oh I’m not knocking you for doing yours. Just giving my experience. I had just bought the rear diff oil to do mine but then someone hit me and totaled it. Probably do it a lot sooner on my new one.

That was the variable. At 60k if I machine the rotors, my fear is ill likely return to some run out in 15k. Then I'll have to replace rotors. Also I would have replaced the pads a second time. Why not replace all and get another 60k or so of flawless service. Seemed the risks weren't rationalizing the math.

Oh I see your logic, but.. everything was or would be due in less than 1k. It was and is currently convenient and in the case of bulk services, financially beneficial.

Yeah.. someone could plow into me on the way home. It would suck, but outside of insurance, I can't prevent the unknown. I'm not silly about it though. I don't prepay my tags 6m in advance or anything.

Thankfully no. It's 100k and I think the plugs are 110k.. then 120k do everything all over again...ugh

I typically do that..like today. Bracketing several services either on time or slightly early reduces labor costs and down time

I missed your post about having a shake already on the rotors. Nothing drives me nuts more than a car with not straight rotors. I'm seriously considering putting drilled rotors on my wife's car because OEM and smooth just doesn't work for her draggy brake foot.

I have a buddy who has an '07 with 300k miles and he's on just his second set of OEM rotors and he tows somewhat frequently.

I'm bedding them in now. Time will tell. I'll take another 60k. Hopefully this is a semi permanent fix.

I did that install. After I got off my side, my back popped and it actually felt pretty good. I decided on a nap afterwards too. The only difference was my lazy boy and a glass of GF (scotch) over ice. I don't remember whether the nap was due to the work or the drink....but we'll earned it was!

From one airman to another (90-94) I trust you engage in some heavy reading, research, comparisons, and then rehash it here, only to then tirelessly find the best deal. I did so. Ended up back into standard Denso rotors and pads. I know most have great success with hawk,EBC,etc. I rarely tow or haul aside from a car or two and flagstone etc. I'm sure that buddy of yours likely resurfaced them at least twice at 150k before junking them. The runout is unavoidable. With 7mm I could have ignored it easily until 100k but I HATE steering wheel shimmy under braking. I'm intrigued at slotted or vented rotors but I don't use the truck to raise the risk profile of cracking (slotted) or price increase. I was bummed at changing them out so early, but am on the fence as to whether I have a thermal issue. I'll probably do some more reading.
