Will Toyota buyers dump their beloved V8 for a smaller turbo engine….

Seems like this question was asked before by an Asian car maker named Honda - when they dropped the ultra reliable V6 Accord and brought out 4cyl turbos based on “customer demand”

Go out and try to find a low mileage ultra clean V6 Accord and see what they ask for it - relative to comparable aged cars in similar condition. It’s not as if they are ultra rare - I mean you sell a million a year of something, target audience being older, established and upper middle class - there’s bound to be more than a few low mileage/neatly maintained examples years later. There’s likely where V8 Tundras will be in 2032.

I like these financial guys in here w/ that “if you can’t afford $5/gal gas you shouldnt....”

While they shell out an $800 truck payment at 3.9% interest after putting “half down”.

Sales of new vehicles with large gas engines will decline with higher fuel prices but it’s rarely beneficial for people to replace their vehicles at $3-4 or even $5/gal gas. Double that, and now we can start a conversation.

Guess it depends on how high they go. It killed the muscle car in the 70s. I’m old enough to remember my parents waiting in line for gas. I have gotten good deals on gas guzzlers when fuel prices go up.

Won’t matter. According to reports, the new generation Tundra won’t have a 5.7, let alone a V8, option anyways. Perhaps that might actually help maintain the value of the older Tundras.

If the gas gets to high. I will park my tundra and use my Beeter car for work like I’m doing now. It’s always comes back down. Everything is a game. Soon as summer comes and people go one vacation they want to raise all the gas prices. No matter how you look at it these tundras with the V8 the value is going to be there.

There are powerful people who want gas to be $10 a gallon. And they don’t care if you have a v8 or an ecoboost, they want to tax/fee you.

remember. Climate is the next crisis. They will be coming for big vehicles.

    Pull into gas station
    Swipe card
    Fill up
Drive away not knowing what I paid for gas
    Be happy

This is what I do when I fill up

But for fun, and the sake of this thread, I did some rough calculations. Average price of gas for me was roughly $1.80/gal last year. It's now around 2.40-2.60, we'll just say 2.60.

    I average about 35k miles a year

    At $1.80/gal I spent around $4860
At $2.60/gal ill spend around $7000

So an increase of $2140. Not too bad and doesn't bother me a bit.

I was in those lines. Keep in mind, back then gas doubled overnight. DOUBLED. Literally and went higher. We were at the mercy of OPEC. We weren't energy independent. OPEC killed the muscle car and our reliance on OPEC. Karma
