My husband has a Tundra and I was thinking about getting it lifted for Fathers Day as a surprise. Curious your thoughts on this being a surprise? Would you like the surprise element or would you appreciate being involved in the specifics around the lift? I know nothing about trucks so this is a genuine question.

Does hubby know anything about trucks or lifts? If y’all both dumb...a surprise would be nice.

No specific budget. I loosely thought it might run around $2-2,500, but could be wrong.

Personally, I would want to be involved. If he has been dropping hints as to what he would like and what shop he would like to use then a surprise might work.

Great idea ma’am but parts due to COVID has slowed production and everything is back ordered. Not steering you away. But slim pickings parts wise

Well if he spends a lot of time here then you just ruined the surprise.

But, to answer your question, there are so many options and levels of performance that he would want to choose, especially if he knows anything about lifts.

first, this is an awesome thing for you to do!

second, because of this ^^here^^, i would present the surprise in a note, or some other creative fashion, and let him pick lift.

spending any time on this site, he probably already has 'some' idea of which lift / parts direction he wants to go.

    just my .02

If he has a 2wd truck, lift spindles are the best. Just know they do not work with stock 18 inch wheels. Maxtrac and Cst make them. Cst is higher quality, however for a street truck it may not matter

you sound awesome! My wife is probably going to put slightly less poison in my food for fathers day!

I don’t know if your husband is a buy it nice or buy it twice type of guy but currently kings, fox, icons, ome, etc... basically all the big suspension companies are backed for months. You would have to call around and hopefully get lucky. Toytec is a good option for entry level, they are backed a few week I think.

As mentioned, that is a great thought. I would go the note route in a card. There are so many options and combinations and alot of us want a particular setup for how we use the truck. Parts are backorder but one benefit to that is that has time to search what he wants for a lift and wheels and tires. Some wheels and tires are backorderd too. I think the note route would work out well.

Yep have to chime in and say to get him involved. I'd be stoked if my wife did something like this for me, but less stoked if it was something I had already decided against :(

He probably has it all planned out already, so if I were you, I'd tell him he can spend 1500-2000, and he'll end up spending 2500 anyway, which is your original budget.

Don’t forget, once the lift is on you’ll need larger tires and hopefully some wheels to go with it

If he is very knowledgeable and spends a lot of time on here, he probably already knows what lift he wants. May want to run it by him first. Kinda like jewelry...I don’t buy it unless my wife tells me what to buy.

Definitely involve him in the decisions. Reminds me of the holiday car commercials with a big bow on new car or truck in the driveway. I would hate for my spouse to bring home a vehicle for me. Half the fun is choosing what you want and shopping around for the perfect match. To a somewhat lesser degree, the same is true for the mods. It’s very thoughtful and a great idea to show support for his hobby, but its better without the “uh oh” surprise factor.

I’d rather a surprise threesome rather than a surprise lift.

That’s just the cost of wheels and tires. You should figure at least $5k.
