Or Ford, Chevy, Dodge will advertise with them and no such story will be written.

If only there was truth in journalism the headline would read. Ford wins truck of the year because they spent the most advertisement money with us this year.

Ford's gonna be bankrupt again here shortly and ask for another handout from the gov't to stay afloat while giving their CEO and higher ups huge bonuses and big vacations like last time. They can't get their shit together with anything. Stopped making most of their cars because they can't get quality on 1 vehicle right yet alone 25. They're a sinking ship and all they really have is name recognition in the mustang and f150, if it wasn't for that they would have been gone a long time ago because if you just step back and look at their products objectively, you'd see that they make shitty products that don't last, have huge design flaws from the start and people just brush that shit under the rug because their grandpa and his brother had f150's.

I don't disagree but I thought they were the only one of the big 3 that didn't take a bailout.

I've owned Nissan, Dodge (before Fiat) and 2 Chevy trucks. My Toyota is the best truck I've ever had. Second best was my 95 Nissan EC 4x4. Dodge was the worst. Chevy's were OK but always had oil leaks to fix. Never got paid to drive an F150 so of course never got one.

Most of the big 3's problems are from decades ago. Management kicked the can down the road and now their retired workers cost them more than their current workers so they don't have the flexibility to do much. Add a business model where they refresh faster than they can engineer reliability into their platforms and it precludes building quality. Then they mass produce products in huge numbers and try to shift them later at a huge discount. They have to amortize their legacy fixed costs onto a higher number of units and then hope for incentives and fleet sales. Toyota's model is keep the platform much longer and amortize the engineering costs over a longer period enabling them to wait until their product is refined and reliable enough. Toyota also doesn't build many more vehicles then they've already sold. They have a much smaller inventory and deliver product as they are sold (or well after they've been sold...)

Then there are the buyers. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe Toyo owners keep their vehicles much longer than the big 3 (and intended to from purchase, not just because they break, although... lol). Big three buyers demand shiny new toys and regular refreshes. They put reliability lower on their priority list than toyo buyers. If you plan on trading in your vehicle every three years, five year reliability isn't as important. It's just a thing that US buyers have more disposable income than most of the world (Monaco and St.Barts notwithstanding) and can afford to splurge on toys moreso than elsewhere. Not to say there aren't too many people over-extending but generalities being what they are.

So to make a short story long, I do have a bit of sympathy for the (current) management of the big 3. They're in a tough spot. But I'll never buy one of there crappy vehicles... lol.

    On a side note....

    "Motorbiscuit"

Where the hell did they even come up with that? I have this visual of some stuffy British guy dining on fish and chips as he waxes eloquent about the perceived lack of refinement in a Tundra as compared to proper British cars.

Yep same here. Just saw a probably 4 year old RAM with rusted wheel wells and the lower portion of the tailgate rotted out. WTF lol.

:anonymous: I traded my 08 SR5 DC (98k on odometer) for an 18 Ram 2500 gasser. I must’ve been suffering from a fit of temporary insanity. I liked the Ram and had no issues, but I sold it back to dealership, with 20-ish thousand on the odometer, in NOV 20 at a markup and went and bought my 16 SR5 DC. Tundra fan through and through. Can’t beat ‘em.

When people say things like this to me, I merely smile quietly with contentment. They'll be on their 3rd or 4th "big three" truck out of discontentment by the time I start to think about replacing my Toyota. It is karma in action before it happens.

I don’t read or watch reviews anymore. I have been driving trucks for 30 years - I know and have experienced way more than most any of these clowns. I keep my Tundra.
