Ordered a Mountain Hatch tailgate insert, for my 06 Double cab. The website doesn’t say it’s specific to a double or access cab just has the make and years.

Well it looks like it’s made for an access cab and not double. It’s about 3 inches to short. Sent them an email, and all they said was it’s normal and they do it to “save weight”

Little upset about it because it looks incomplete and not like the photo. Specially after paying $270+

    Buyers beware.

That 3”s of weight savings is completely worth it.

$270 for a sheet of incorrectly sized plastic?

Send it back and find something like this for $100 that fits correctly.

The main point is that it doesn’t match the pic. The pic on their page is advertising that product. You paid them money. The implicit agreement is they send you what’s in the pic. This is false or at least misleading advertising. I’d tell them they need to send me a shipping label to send this one back and to send me another that actually follows the channel all the way around the tailgate like the one in the pic on the for sale page. It shouldn’t cost you a dime. They screwed up. That weight savings is BS—they know that goofy half-coverage look isn’t going to sell any product for them. They need to make it right. Especially at full price.

I got mine from the outlet and used a 20% off code. It was still too much, lol. We’ll use it a lot though.

Very fortunate to be able send this back. I used hardboard out of a stereo console from the 1970s. It worked really well. This is an easy one to be creative with. Go to lowes and spend $20 and make something.

This^. A 60" X 24" cutting board is only $80! I came across Mountain Hatch site once and was somewhat baffled at the cost. At Mountain Hatch's price point they need to do a better job of ACTUALLY verifying a specific vehicle's tailgate fitment.

What's the height of the tailgate?

Doesn't make any sense unless double cabs have a deeper bed? I thought all our trucks had the same depth bed?

Maybe they confused it with a Ford fuckin ranger.

Double cabs have a deeper bed. That's one of the few reasons why I wanted one.

    Access Cab Bed Depth: 17.2"
    Double Cab Bed Depth: 20.7"

sounds right, I will let them know.

update: the refund was processed and the money should be back in my account by Tuesday. Usually company’s wait for the item to be refunded before sending the money back. So that’s a win.

going to make a template out of the hatch while I wait for a return label, add a couple of inches and try making one out of wood or another material as mentioned above.

What were you trying to accomplish with this insert? I guess I don't understand what they are for. Is it just to make it smooth and therefore better on the buns and knees?

For me, a cutting board similar to the Mountain Hatch would be good for filleting fish, especially salmon utilizing the tailgate surface. Lots of fishermen and gals here could certainly make use of it along with a WaterPORT for example. The only difference is you don't permanently mount it to the freaking tailgate!

It’s a smooth surface, table and a large cutting board great for camping. The current shell drop in is awful, can’t even put a beer on it.

Now that makes a bunch of sense. We made some cutting boards at work from some composite looking stuff, but I think hdpe is pretty standard. At least that's what most cutting boards look like they are if they aren't bamboo or other wood.

I get that it’s fairly excessive, especially at full price, but it takes maybe a minute to remove the 8 screws that hold it on. Kind of nice to drop the gate and have a large, flat, food-safe surface to prep meals on for our family of 5.

Even though I installed it to check the fit, I decided mine will live in my garage until we actually go on a trip.
