Your truck is looking good. I need some bigger tires to complete my rig.

Had my new Trail Edition for almost 2 weeks now. Nice to have a truck bed again after my last two Toyota’s were SUVs.

Thanks! I’ve been trying to catch up in this thread to see what feedback and mods you’ve all been doing so far.

Anyone running KO2s on theirs? The Michelin “all terrains” are more than underwhelming and they gotta go.

I don't recall anyone in here running KO2s, but me personally I'm running the Kenda Klever at2 and I'm very happy with them especially for the price.

Decided to go with the Falken Wildpeak At3w in 285/65r18. Waiting on those and Rough Country 1.75in leveling kit to come in early next week.

TRD skid plate on - nicely engineered and built piece, just like the Predator steps. Waiting for the tow hooks to fully cure (painted them red) before putting them back on.

FYI - a friend helped me and it would have been much less fun had I tried to do it by myself. Four hands are better than two in this case.

I must be honest with you, I'm not exactly thrilled with it. It's not garbage or anything but the fit and finish is not what I expected. I don't know if I over tightened it and stretched it out or maybe it was too loose when it rained but the left side has kind of a dip in it. Also when closing it it is a super tight fit, I have to put one side in and then push against that side to be able to get the other side in to latch it. That being said there's like three or four other people that also have it so maybe mine is an anomaly.

I’ll chime in that the Agricover has been good for me over the past three months with no complaints. I think I’m the only one running it, so I wanted to give my two cents.

Sorry to hear that. Mine has been great. Although, I will be selling it in the fall after I drive to Montana to pick up the Go Fast Camper.

Beware: much fun getting the nuts on the bolts above the frame rail behind the gas tank. Patience is key.

Sorry been kinda busy, but here are some pics. Hauled about 2200# in the truck today and never made contact with the Sumo spring bump stops. The truck also rides great empty or loaded. Dobinson's HD springs coupled with the HD Roadmaster active suspension are simply awesome for eliminating any squat. Maybe some 285/75s if I can get them to fit with factory rims.IMG_20210515_202920.jpg IMG_20210515_201819_2.jpg IMG_20210515_201814_2.jpg IMG_20210515_201958_4.jpg

If I didn't use the truck to tow, I would re gear, add a 2 or 3" body lift, mount some 37s with about 1.5" of less offset on method rims and have a wicked rig, unfortunately cannot. Need to keep what little fuel mileage I have left. However, I do have a killer rear suspension now, rides like a damn Cadillac! Maybe an exhaust upgrade someday, tires first. After Real Truck didn't ship my headache rack as promised I cancelled the order. Ten days later and after I bought the paint to fabricate and coat my own version the fools turned around and shipped it overnight. So I managed to get them to reimburse me $120 and I am installing the rack soon. Need to fabricate my brackets and bed rails first because I don't like the Westin brackets and won't be drilling into my truck. I have cut the plastic bed caps so I can anchor everything in stake pockets with stainless bolts going into old fashioned expandable rubber stake pocket anchoring points. Brackets are done, just need to finish the rails and do some paint work. Maybe have some pics in a couple of weeks if all goes well. Gonna be tough as nails, and will be decked out with forward and rearward clear LEDs plus marker and turn lights at both end of the rack on the outside of the frame. The rails will give me the ability to add a solid hard top cover too, just gotta fab it up. Might be a few months, but it will be rock solid and affordable. My wife is begging me to let her drive it to work, she doesn't get it yet, much different than our 4Runner. Not sure if I can get it back, decision time.

    Looks good!
Anyone seen these skid plates offered for less than 350?
Or alternative aftermarket skid plate recommendations?

The the TRD skid plate is a great skid plate, but if you decide to go aftermarket I would recommend the RCI skid plate. Lots and lots of people on here who have it myself included. It has a door like the TRD one for oil changes.

I looked hard at the RCI and talked to them - that is an awesome product! In the end, I was going to want the aluminum version from them and that brought it to within $25 of what my dealer sold me the TRD for (also aluminum). My experience thus far with the Toyota aftermarket parts (Predator steps, made in USA and TRD skid plate, made in Canada) is that there is an impressive level of engineering and and manufacturing quality.

I don't personally feel you can go wrong with either choice. I originally preferred the RCI because it kept the black and white look I have going, but I admit I really enjoy the little pop of red I have with the TRD plate and painted hooks.

Last thing - this truck is my daily driver and I don't anticipate much, if any, off-road duty. The decision for me to get an aftermarket skid plate was purely to make oil changes easier and had nothing to do with different or added protection. Those who might need that kind of protection would need to weigh in. I do know that RCI offers an entire suite of protection products that can extend to and past the transmission.

I got the skid plate as an insurance policy and also for the ease of oil changes. If someone is a true off-roader and expects to routinely bash their skid plate, the TRD and the RCI should be avoided as they just aren't quite thick enough for this big heavy truck. I heard PnP engineering makes a thick one and I believe CBI does as well.

I would like to inquire about the oil change factor, what holds the door on the skid? I mean I have five 12mm bolts to back out which takes like a minute with air ratchet, so I don't see much difference, but I don't have the skid to compare to. I gained the loss of the front fasteners when I changed the bumper. I definitely agree with you on off roading, from what I can see those look like maybe 1/8" plate skids, won't protect much from a serious occurance such as a tree stump or protruding rock, depends on many factors of course.

The aluminum is 1/4" which is what me many others have, if you get the steel it is 10 gauge which google says is 9/64th thickness which is definitely on the thin side of things. As for the door the pic below shows how much more convenient it is than removing the stock splash pan.
