Trade 2019 for 2021?

Hi,

I'm getting offers from my dealer on trading my 2019 Tundra towards a 2021....

They're offering me a pretty good deal. Zero down, lower APR, lower monthly.....I'll scrutinize these numbers later but I'm curious if the 2021 is any more of a difference?

I did get them to admit the NEW Tundra will be later this year...the 2022 so this will be it for the classic 5.7L Tundras....

So aside from money what are pros and cons 2019 v. 2021?

I trade my ‘19 for a ‘21. I gained dual zone climate control, push button start, leather wrapped steering wheel. Also the screen on the head unit is slightly larger and the resolution is better. I have no regrets.

 

As you know the core truck is identical, but there are differences based on trim package. Mostly interior as @tttrdpro mentioned: Carplay/Android Auto Audio, smart key, charging USB ports, etc.

 

Depends on the trim level. The push button and dual zone is on the limited and higher. They do not come on the SR or SR5's

 

They used to. My 2010 SR5 had dual zone climate. And a grab handle and transmission cooler.

To OP, disregard monthly payments unless you can’t afford yours now. Are you losing equity? How much longer will the payments be? What about taxes? Any mods on current truck? Are new features worth that to you?

 

And due to the microchip shortage many manufacturers are tweaking, changing or deleting some features. Do you/we know if any of that applies to your 2021? I might inquire about that in a very detailed way.

 

This is false, you can get it in the SR5 if you have TRD Off Road or Sport packages.

 

They can always get you a lower monthly payment by extending the length of the loan. I'd sit down and figure out what the true dollar cost is going to be to upgrade and I bet you'll change your mind. Look at what you currently owe and what they are going to give you for your truck. Any mods or extended warranty you'll be losing in the deal? How much is that new truck in hard dollars after you add up all the payments. Is it worth it? You decide.

As mentioned, you have the Off Road pkg. Base model SR5 does not have it.

 

Can you get a lower payment? Maybe, but also think about the fact you're stretching out how much time is left to pay on it.

I'd say keep it, pay it off sooner.

 

In the same boat. Keeping mine. But my current mileage is only 14k.

 

I got an offer of $45,101 on a truck I paid $41,491.04.

 

But they probably want to jack the price of the new one by 4k too

 

I agree. I asked them to call me when they have 2022 Tundra specs.

 

My 2014 has been paid off for 3 years.
Imagine not having a vehicle payment..

I just went from a '16 to a '21. But I was forced to due to someone hitting me and totaling my truck. Got 17K in equity on a new TRD Sport. I love it as it has so many more features than what my '16 had. Starting over with mods sucks though. But I have learned a lot since my '16 and doing things different/better, etc.

 

I traded my 2017 for a 2021. I like the 2021 so much better in regards to features, Apple CarPlay for one. I wasn’t sure about holding out for a 2022 v6 turbo (rumors) so I stayed with the 5.7 V8. With the Tundra, the resale should be there for a trade in for the new generation in 2-3 years- if the new truck is awesome.

 

New 2021 tundra will be overpriced by said dealer and good luck finding one. My local 2 dealerships have been contacting me non stop to "trade in" my 19 for a 21, I ask them what they have for 21's and they tell me absolutely nothing and wont be getting anything.

 

I wouldn't, your 2019 already has all the tweaks/changes that matter. Spend the money on a nice audio upgrade, new wheels/tires, suspension, steps etc.

 

The niceties of the 2021 vs the 2019 are not significant enough (in my opinion) to pay the additional cost and extend your payments, assuming you have one. Put a couple bucks into the '19 to make it comparable if not nicer than the '21 and pay it off sooner...my .02

 

Yes always strive for less consumer debt. At the end of the day it’s a vehicle to transport you from point a to b. I paid cash for mine and I can use what would be a $500 payment for mods, or just save it. It’s amazing. Never having debt on anything else again besides my mortgage.

 

I think it’s a terrible time to buy a vehicle. No matter how the dealership spins it. I’d keep the 19

 

I 100% agree with Brad. The dealerships now have the upper hand due to supply and demand. Some day hopefully in the not too distant future the dealership lots will again be overflowing with vehicles.

Look no Toyota Safety Sense, and this one has a transmission cooler, nice! Oh and it came with a Toyota Tri Fold Tonneau cheaper than the dealer adding a transmission cooler. The 2017 actually had less miles, lol

 

Too close to the redesign coming out...although I am sure it will be delayed.

 

I am also in the same boat , dealer offered TRD pro at MSRP , no markups. Salesman said they have been allocated huge number of trucks coming in couple of months most likely 2022 models.
Decided to wait what toyota has to offer in next gen tundra.

 

Now, a PRO at MSRP may make me think about it a bit. A PRO here in Colorado is going for 10-12 thousand over MSRP and they will not budge. I wouldn’t feel like I was getting ripped off on the PRO because even before this mess it was quite common.

 

Same here. Just paid off my 2019 in April. Bought it in August of 2019. Only 20k miles. Well worth it.

As a reward, I got the blackout decal kit installed, TRD cold air intake and black exhaust installed, as well as the TRD sway bars for the front and back.

Rides like a new truck with more power, and it goes vvrrroomm!

Going to get the predator running boards installed and window tint. Probably going to get the TRD grille as well, possibly the hood scoop as well. We'll see how far we go lol
