Hello, I have just drained and filled rear diff, tC, and front diff. Now while I have truck on lift I thought I might as well finish it off with trans gasket, fluid & filter change. My question is the parts person told me it not required to replace trans pan gasket. Now this seemed odd to me, so while looking over different forms I've seen post where people were quoted saying toyota doesn't recommend changing filter just drain and refill. BTW, My 2014 Crew Max has 173k on dial. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely do not drop the pan. The filter is not the type that needs changing and the bolts that hold the pan on are famous for snapping off. Just drain the fluid from the pan, measure what came out, and put it back in. It will be about 4qts. Do this 3 or 4 times if you want all fresh fluid.

Filter doesn't need to be changed. I changed mine at around the same mileage as your and it had virtually nothing inside of it. As for the gasket, mine broke when I removed my pan. Also plan to have someone run you to the parts store for bolts and ease outs, because it's almost a guarantee that one will break.

My advice, drain the pan, fill it up with 4 qts, then drain 2 qts at a time through the trans cooler return line, then add 2 qts. Repeat for a total of 12-14qts
