What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Add tax and its roughly 1.5 million over 30 years. They won't have the room to save for things unless they get serious increase in pay soon. They need some Dave Ramsey in their lives because they spend way too much on lifestyle to afford the house. I hope it changes for them.

 

Nothing too big. I just got a cool little key deal. I got a keysmart with the tile for my wife, but I generally get the more utilitarian equipment. It's not bad for around $10.

Now I just need a proximity key conversion. I hate pocket clutter.

Yall have some crazy prices out there. This is what 635k will get you here. 2 acres, 3500 sq ft, 4 bed 4bath with a shop.

 

3 car garage + shop would match 100% of my wish list. It would be so very strange to park inside a garage. I haven't done that since I left for college.

Yeah I just can't do it either. No offense to BMF, but that landscape is just way too barren for me. I like trees. I like mountains, I don't care about the beach. I really thought I would like Texas but after visiting nearly 10 times, it's just not for me.

The house we just bought is 2,500 sq feet and it was $350,000. My property taxes will be around $1,500/year. Built in 1991. It needs some updating but seems to have good bones. 18 months ago this house wouldn't have sold for more than $300K. That's how fast prices are climbing. Rent is concerning too. I have friends here paying $1,300 for a modest 1 bedroom apartment. The bottom line is that everything is increasing at rates far outpacing wages. I don't know what the end result is going to be but I'm just going to keep my head down and try to save as much money as I can. I hope some of our members in their 20's learn the power of compound interest. Start saving early and you shouldn't have to work until you're 80.

 

There's a hint of a tree in one of the photos but I find the open landscape a little unsettling. Unless the idea is to sit on your back porch and hunt?

 

Texas is bigger than a lot of countries. It is a partially brown state but there are some nice areas.




We have known how to fix our desert problem for a long time. This can be done pretty easily now by private citizens for the cost of renting some earth moving equipment.

When I drove through east TX they had a lot of trees. Still not for me though. I hear Hill Country is nice.

 

Are you sure it was trees? What they call trees in hill country look like overgrown bushes to me.

 

I haven't been to Hill Country which is more Central Texas. East TX had legitimate trees but it was really flat. Then it turns to swamp eventually.

 

The tallest in Hill Country is supposedly 96 feet tall. They appear to be monstrously wide though. Maybe the 175 foot Maple tree in my neighbor’s back yard growing up has somewhat soured my opinion. Dunno.

 

2.5M would get you a 10k sqft house on 500 acres or premium lake view/access on a lot of acres.

Here's the one I had my eyes all over from the moment the notices went up, before they started grading. Ended up a clear pass on price, I was merely _hoping_ for the _opportunity_ to buy in at 1.5 (and double our monthly if not triple it) to get one extra bedroom and a very slightly bigger yard, but no, it was 1.7+

Texas is something like the 10th largest economies in the world. Crazy. Then again we likely have 4 states in the top 20 or more.

The way prices are going with no end in site, I’ll be living in a log cabin out in the middle of nowhere, renting out my townhouse to get by along with my beer fund pension, 401k and social security.

Ill be fine so long as I can get decent satellite internet speed to work remotely I guess.

 

My mom left me 10 acres of land in VA near the blue ridge mountains. Requires crossing a bridge which I get notes about always needing repairs. I've seen it only once, in heavy rain/mist. It's loaded with trees and undergrowth. Probably steamy in summer and frigid in winter. Always figured it'd be an awesome bug out destination. Just the people up there could be a little different than I'm used to. But plenty of land to clear trees and park trucks on. No HOA. Septic would take some getting used to. Maybe just live in a RTT and hide in the bushes and grow the beard out. But at some point, the 8 car garage would have to become a reality...

 

An old carriage house would be good for that. I would like to have a tall enough garage myself to put in a vehicle lift and maybe a paint booth.

 

What is everyone’s alignment specs that’s running 255/80r17 or 285/75r16s? Just curious... I’ve got a degree of negative camber with 3 degrees of caster... if it’s safe to remove some caster then I’ll take some caster out to get the camber more in line. But being I have an hour each day to actually do it... I don’t want to end up making it drive like shit and waiting a whole day to try again... lol

 

Just curious what getting used to a septic would mean to you. No HOA is legit. I recommend everyone giving it a go . I am a big fan of fewer people telling me how to live my life.

 

Yeah I have no HOA now but deal with it for my old house. I hate them.

Septic would mean I’d have to eliminate my OCD dishwashing compulsion. Tough habit to break.

 

It would be a lot different than San Diego but I bet you might like it more than you think. It's a nice state. I'd go out there and camp on it a few weeks to see what it's like. The bridge sounds neat.
