Ok so I’m replacing the starter in my 2004 DC, awesome job, highly recommend. But when I took off the intake manifold I found all this black stuff in the intake ports. Forgive me if that’s not the right name, just see pictures. It’s very tar like, I wiped it out as best I could but I’m just curious what this is? The truck only has 139,000 miles on it.

anybody ever seen anything like this or know what might have caused it? I’ve only owned the truck for a couple months and haven’t put many miles on it besides driving it back from Michigan to Colorado so I don’t know much of the history.

Carbon buildup from the pcv system, be glad you have port injection so your valves are still clean.
Spray intake cleaner on a rag and wipe it off.

What Nick said. Great opportunity to clean that up. I've heard a couple Tundra owners say that after cleaning this gunk out, their engines ran like new again. Let us know how it goes.

It's pretty normal. Here's some on my 319k tundra and a 173k SHO:

Lol. I was thinking of using that one, but it didn't show the ports that great. Plus stupid mouse house is distracting.

I’d like to see before and after shots post-Sea Foam via the TB Air Intake. I wonder how well it really cleans those intake ports. When I did mine, my exhaust smelled like Swisher Sweets for about 2 weeks afterwards. I’m guessing the Goo was dripping down and slowly burning off?

I did 2 Treatments back to back in 2 days. Sphincter tightening experience indeed.

My experience was ultra stress on the Sphinx, I told my old lady to rev the engine to 2k and hold, she sends it to 5k and holds it.......

I did the ole brick on the pedal trick. RPM’s dipped a hair towards the end of can which is probably worse than an over rev. Would have been better with someone controlling it. I have a third can left and wonder if I’ll ever use it.

I wiped it out and seemed to get a bit better gas mileage? Maybe it was just me being optimistic and hopeful haha. But I’m still thinking a sea foam might be in store sometime in the future. If I do it I’ll take the intake off again to see how it looks
