Hope I'm posting in the best place. Couldn't find a subcategory in the garage.

I'm looking for some rock sliders locally. Luckily I have tons of options in the San Diego area. I wanted to get some opinions on these custom build jobs I found on craigslist.

Use case: Primarily these are going to be sidesteps. Occasional off-roading and climbing, but primarily just to get to some of the remote campsites I want to visit. I'm not using the Tundra just to bounce around on rocks.

    Craigslist Link: Truck Rock Sliders

Think I'm taking any major risks by going this route? Things I've been thinking of:
    • Aesthetics will vary, but the photos look good enough to me. I can deal with this risk for the price.
    • Not sure if they mount with countersunk bolts. I see this as a marketing point on a lot of commercial sliders. Only thing I can think of is it's just another thing to get hung up if I ever need to rely on these.

If not banging around over rocks on purpose, bolt on will be fine. The heads will stick out, but they shouldn't hinder anything if not seriously rock crawling.

Another thing to look at is the type of steel being used and it's diameter. Which isn't mentioned in the craigslist post.

Lots of options out there. Good luck with your choice.

They're claiming 1.5 tube, so it's appropriate size for the slider. DOM or HREW... eh, both should be fine for standard off-road where you're trying not to drop the truck on a rock. If you put yourself in positions where you may drop the truck fully loaded on a rock, then make sure it's DOM. You could always try cone washers if the hardware is appropriate for them or find different hardware compatible with cone washers.

Yep, 1.5 mild steel. A36. .188 wall thickness, which is a little thicker than the Demello sliders I was considering buying.

Finished and installed! I’m very happy with them. The guys who built them are great. They also do bed racks. Let me know if you want to get in touch with them! San Diego area. I paid $580 total for these, painted and installed.

I’m going to have them lined when I get my bed lined in a few weeks. So the paint was unnecessary, but I wasn’t sure at the time I ordered them.
