Side note about supply. . . I drove by our
Local toyota dealership yesterday and I did not see one new truck on the lot. I didn't ride through, but where they usually have them parked was completely empty. No tundras OR tacomas. . .

Same here. I look every time I drive by and didn’t see and tundras, Tacomas, or 4 runners. I didn’t drive through either but those are usually out front.

no matter what the new tundra is or how awesome, no way I will be running out to buy it with no supply and paying MSRP or something stupid. Its a terrible time to buy

Sadly, I could actually see this happening. New Tundra using a 6 year old Lexus part. That being said, I’m looking for an up to par engine, better frame strength, nicer interior, and increase in rust protection. If these issues are addressed, this new Tundra can appeal to more buyers outside of the Toyota fan.

Yea.. used tundras with 70k going for a few grand less than new. My dad needed a new truck ASAP and we hunted used across 4 states with no luck, ended up paying $7k more than I paid for my platinum 2 years ago for a cement limited crewmax and wont have it until mi June if he is lucky.

I could see this happening, too, and I'm not sure why it has to be a letdown. Toyota's manufacturing model is a literal textbook case study in efficiency and long-term reliability. If there's a downside, it's the recycling of tried-and-true parts across platform lines and the perceived lack of wow factor that comes with it.

I'm not sure any of us should expect to be ooh-ing and ahh-ing over upcoming features in the next gen Tundra. "L@@k at all this neat $tuff!" is the domestics' business model, not Toyota's.

I don't think many of us want useless trinkets. What we want is something practical and modern WITH Toyota reliability. We shouldn't have to rip out the HU to replace the speakers. Toyota should allow more apps to their HUs. BSM should be standard on all models and be easy to disable. The cameras should be of higher quality and the guidelines move with the steering wheel. Just basic things that Toyota can easily change and maintain reliability.

The thing that bugs me the most, is that the Tundra falls behind OTHER TOYOTA/LEXUS vehicles when it comes to technology by more than a decade. My mom has a 2010 Lexus that has the guidelines that move with the steering wheel - the guidelines on my 2020 Tundra look like garbage and are static. The argument that Toyota's business model isn't about innovating technology is null and void when you take into account that most of their other vehicles have had a lot of what we want for a very long time.

Are you sure you want things more easily accessible in your dash? My truck's interior is silent. My wife's Yukon's is not, but man that dash sure pops apart quickly and easily. I want less apps, lol. I don't like or trust BSM (it's the aforementioned Yukon's fault; very buggy), but yeah maybe that should be standard. I totally agree that moving guidelines with the turning of the wheel would be nice. It's been around a loooooong time...surely Toyota can let us plebes who drive non-luxury vehicles have it, too.

For perspective, if you get a brand new Custom trim level Silverado, it doesn't even have audio controls on the steering wheel.

All 5 windows in my 2012 SR5 4Runner were full auto up/down. That was nice.

We have a '14 Trail, so yeah... it's disappointing the Tundra doesn't have it. But I also wish our 4R had a V8! WHY, TOYOTA? WHY??!!! :annoyed:

I feel the same most of the stuff we want Toyota already has in other models

my wife's mid grade Sienna 2015 has stuff that my platinum tundra doesnt especially when it comes to small nice touches that are really basic when you think about it.

like tap to pass turn signals, push button start keyless enter n go, backlight gauges, and so on.

plus as I always mention, the materials in my tundra are pretty shitty for a 50K plus truck, most dont even match.

When I heard about the turbo 3.5L v6 for the Tundra, my first thought was that would be awesome in the 4Runner. It would solve everyone’s gripes with Tacoma as well.

While my interior is probably the same confusion of chrome, black, and various grays that yours has, I do have all those other features you mention (tap turn signal for 3 blinks, push button start, unlock all doors and tailgate just by gripping either front exterior door handle, backlit gauges).

Ya, I understand they have added stuff since my 2015 van vs 2016 tundra comparison, but then there is another round of stuff since then on the 2021 vs 2021 stuff.

I guess its just an overall tundra has been treated like the red-headed step child in the line-up.

Lets hope they change that with this ground up, especially utility, function, and storage

and for the love of god, please don't hide all the buttons and switches behind the steering wheel, low on the dash, its tough to see them or find what you want.

I know it was just an example at the time.

my 2013 Ram had and still has way more shit than a 2021 tundra, especially in the storage department.

Check at the LC300 and Highlander screens. They are identical to the Lexus rectangle HU. You think Toyota would do something diff on the tundra? I think not.

I believe so, but I can get 2 4Runners for the price of 1 LC. I think the fancy 4Runner (Lexus GX) has a V8 for only 1.5x the price of a 4R. lol

I was going to say the Sequoia is the V8 alternative to the 4R but I don't think I'd off road with one.

I keep thinking a 5.7 stuffed in a 4R would be a helluva lot of fun! I think the GX only gets the 4.6.

the vehicle market right now is crazy. my 2021 TRD Pro is worth more than I bought it new w/ taxes. Got offered 61k for it. (R/D vehicle though keeping it)

I'm in the same situation as your Dad and I tell yah its brutal trying to find any kind of 2019-2020 used Platinum here in BC, Canada. I figured at this point I would just lease the 2022 Tundra threw the business and go from there but here we are with no new Tundra. I'm tempted to buy a Ram 1500 2020 Sport but I know I will just regret not getting a Tundra when everything inevitably goes wrong with it :p
