So my wife's 2012 Highlander (with Blizzard Pearl color paint) has been peeling around the windshield....we put off getting it taken care of because it was dinky.

Until yesterday, when I managed to get a look @ the roof and saw two giant hand-sized spots flaking off (we're talking down to bare metal).

The vehicle was a certified purchase and has a lifetime engine warranty (which means squat, I suppose). I do know that there was a huge paint recall for vehicles going all the way back to 2008, and it was specifically for the white paint colors - BUT it did not include the Highlander.

I've already spoken to our salesman who said "Unsure if they'll be able to do anything, but it's worth a shot, so why not stop by to see what can be done?" Anyone else heard of paint issues like this being taken care of?

Weird that the highlander isn’t covered. I’ve done camrys, corollas, rav4s and 4Runners. A quick feather, etch, seal and shoot job on a roof is gravy for a good local body shop. Dig a little and see if Toyota has a good reason for excluding the highlander before paying up. My wife’s notice on her 4Runner did say they would reimburse if it had already been fixed. Their hours are pretty skinny on the warranty tickets though.

I used to have a highlander and was on the highlander forum, there are a TON of complains about paint issues with that color. You may want to peak over there and see if anyone has gotten Toyota to do anything.

    Minor update:

Called the local service director @ our dealership. He said for us to start by calling Toyota Corporate directly, because if he put it in for us, for some reason, it'd get rejected out of hand.

So my wife called...and she got rejected out of hand. I was pretty proud of her...she simply made calm statements and countered the guy's claims with logic until he literally could say nothing other than "I'm sorry." LOL

Called the service director back; his exact words were "They fobbed you off? Just like that? That's some BS." LOL

Regional Toyota representative (whatever they're called) is supposed to be onsite next week to discuss other issues with him, so the service director is going to hit him with this once they're talking to see what can't be done.
