Hi from the Sierra Mountains of Northern California (Truckee Country).

My 2003 Tacoma (150K) has been my pal for 18 years. Only 156K miles on it. It will probably go another 20 years without any issues. I'm thinking of hanging on to it - I've never done the rubicon trail even though it's in my backyard.

I've been searching for a new truck for the last 9 months. New Tacoma, Tundra, and even F150s. I finally settled on the Tundra Pro Crewcab. The last several months, I've been searching California, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Utah, and Idaho - due to chip shortage and COVID bs. You can literally count the number of limited, platinum, and pro's on two hands for each state! I've made offers on over 12 trucks. The dealership has marked up the tundras with over a 17,500 add-on price. Yikes! Negotiating and dealing with these dealers have has been challenging.

Finally - I made an offer, got accepted, truck in transit, due to arrive April 26 to May 03. So excited! No markup!

White 2021 Toyota Tundra CreMax TRD Pro Automatic 4WD. Options: predator steps, spray-on bedliner, and remote tailgate lock. It's a very me truck!

I've got to say that I followed the buying new tundra (advice in this forum somewhere) and I was very happy with what I learned and how it opened up the entire western region of the united states to me.

Any day now, I'll be called to drive to the bay area to finish the vehicle's financing and pick it up. I was wondering about the EXTENDED WARRANTY and/OR PRE-PAID MAINTENANCE. Worth it or not? How much can they be negotiated on?

I'm want to buy a tonneau cover and bed racks that work together. Any idea where to purchase these items or the best vendor to look at? I have Kayaks and mountain bikes to haul as I go camping. Dogs, gas, generators, and water for the back. I pull a small 17ft BH trailer.

Thanks for reading - my dog, Gracie, and I are happy to join the ranks of proud tundra owners.

    Thank you and God Bless!
    Bill and Gracie

    Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)!

I got the extended warranty (8 yrs, 120k miles) for peace of mind and because I got a GREAT deal on the truck and a decent deal on the warranty. While the Tundra is the most reliable 1/2 T out there, things do break from time to time.

I don't have bed racks so can't help with that question, but I have seen threads on this site that discuss it.

We need pics of your truck, AND pics of your pooch! There is a thread for that!

Pre-paid maintenance probably isn’t so great of a deal (if you like to do your own oil changes and such), as there isn’t much maintenance other than oil changes and tire rotations until you start racking up significant miles.

There is a thread somewhere on here about a contact that sells the Toyota FACTORY extended warranty at a discounted price (can’t find it right now - will check a bit later with some Google fu). Edit: here you go

If interested in an extended warranty, I would only purchase the Toyota one (no 3rd party ones) and only if the price was right. There is some room for negotiations on it. (Will try to find the link when I get back to a PC). You can actually buy it at any willing dealer (doesn’t have to be selling dealer) as long as vehicle is still under warranty.

    Congrats!

    Welcome!

what Bay Area dealership did you order from??

The prepaid maintenance packages are only worth it if you drive a lot. Even then they only cover Oil/filter changes, tire rotations, cabin and engine filters (at 30k and 60k)
If you don’t plan on racking up thousands of miles a year it’s honestly not worth it to buy a maintenance plan.

    That ^^^.

    Welcome from CA (Central Alabama).

I've had 7 new-from-the-dealer Toyotas since 1985 and never once have I said "damn, wish I had bought an extended warranty." All been driven boochoos of miles.

    Welcome aboard sailor.

Grats on the new Pro. It sounds like you will love it. I got the Platinum plan that covers the for 10 years/100,000 miles for out Tundra and our 4Runner. I held out for them to give me the full ten year plan for a reduced price. Be ready for a looooong wait if you order a topper. There is a shortage of fiberglass resin and the working conditions at the factories because of COVID have slowed things down. I ordered an A.R.E. Z-series on March 5th. They told me that it might be here by late June or early July.
